Membership Directory and Protected Content not working together

OK, this issue regards both Protected Content Plugin and specifically how Members Directory is creating a /members/ path that can’t be accessed, pages can’t be created with that path, information on the member isn’t displaying because of the pathing causing a 404 error. Best understood by watching this little video which I hope does not ramble too much  Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pbk71khzepsrbgp/MembershipProtectionProblem.mp4?dl=0

The video stopped working about half way through my 2nd time watching it. I don’t work for wpmud but have these plugins on several sites and thought I would see if I could tell what the issue was.

I was trying to verify that your settings for protected content included the second page when the video stopped. It almost looked like you were setting the permissions correctly for http://www…../members/ but were not setting it for http://www…../member/username to include your membership level for those pages individually.

Hope that helps. and best of luck to you.

Also, since your new members have not made any comments or posts the user will be listed in the members directory but if you click on their username their member’s page will display Member not Found which will return a 404 error but the url will read /members/username

Okay.. I watched your video several times now. You are protecting “special pages” which includes 404 pages. Your 404 is due to how the members directory plugin works. I suggest you create a “My Information” post for each user and assign it under that user… or you can create a true directory of users by using something like directory You can view an example of the directory plugin HERE Please keep in mind that this example is customized and not how the directory plugin usually looks.

    Hi @robertkwasny,

Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.

I tried to see the video but it stopped in the middle also some time the quality of it was not so good to read anything.

I think you should also provide some content along with video however possible so that we can troubleshoot the issue.

From the information provided in your initial post i tested on my test site using latest version of both the plugins and found initially it displayed the 404 error page for me but when i saved the permalink settings then it started working.

Could you please try saving permalink settings?

I tried to visit your site http://192.163.195.67/~eaganm/ but it’s displaying broken for me.

Is this because of this issue?

Also would you mind if I logged in to your site and did some testing? This might help get to the bottom of this faster. If this is ok, just grant me temporary admin access to your site by clicking “Grant Access” button in the WPMU DEV Dashboard Settings as described on the following page and reply on this thread after granting it?

    Hi Vinod,

We went from the Dev site (IP/~username) to the real site as we go live in the morning and demonstrate it in just 9 hours.

I just turned on the Support system which lets you log in… apparently I had to reinstall because of the change.

Here’s the Dropbox link again… it plays perfectly here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pbk71khzepsrbgp/MembershipProtectionProblem.mp4?dl=0 with really good resolution, maybe you have to download it to play it at full resolution?

    Thanks for looking into this.

The user hotdog has a password of patrick123

So that is set as a member with subscriber access.

I’ll try some of the stuff Andrea mentioned as well.

    Thanks guys!

    Hi Andrea,

Just a little South of you in Albuquerque!

OK, I’m to stupid/burnt out/on my 17th hour today to really follow your suggestions but I want you to know I just popped points on ya for going out of your way to help! I did install Directory but honestly, my brain cells have crossed into tomorrow already. If Vinod can make some progress on this — great but if not, I’ll be back at it again tomorrow.

    Sincere thanks!

    Hi Vinod,

Yep, I resaved Permalinks as well – did it again.

I just went in and it’s working… did you do that or did the resaving Permalinks do that?????

OMG, I might not look like a total fool in the morning!

If you fixed something THANKS, please tell me what happened!

Just got back from a flawless presentation… it all worked!

Thanks again and yes, Vinod rocks!

I was completely lost on why it wasn’t working.

Did you do that Chamber site?

    Very cool!

Much appreciated Andrea, I’ll be messing around with Membership Directory, perhaps later today — great suggestion!

Glad your presentation went well. Yes I did the chamber site. I used several wpmudev plugins and the divi theme from et and then did some customization. It’s on a multi site with the directory plugin on it’s own sub because it was slowing the site down.

Thank NAME, for their help.

Let NAME know exactly why they deserved these points.

Gift a custom amount of points.
