Membership sending a false payment notification

I had a free membership which has multiple users, and after changing it from free to paid ($25/year), one of my old members reported that they received and email telling them that they have paid $25, but there was no actual transaction.

    Hi Stuart,

    I did some tests on my end by enabling same add-ons and emails you use on your site and then tried changing membership from free to paid but I didn't get any emails to my already subscribed accounts.

    Could you tell me which member was affected, his ID would be enough for us to find him and check it out, or you can leave the Username/Email in WPMU DEV > Support panel so it's not shared publicly.

    Also, could you add below code inside your wp-config.php file just above the /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ line and this should log outgoing emails and might help us pinpoint the issue here:
    define( "MS_LOG_EMAILS", true );
