Memberships Inconsistent + Roles

You describe the default membership as: 'Content is available to all logged-in users who have not yet joined your site as a member.'

Please explain how someone could be logged in but not yet joined the site as a member.......

Is there a way for me give users a choice to pick a role when signing up?
Is there a way to ensure that users are directed to the 'success' page after registering? Mine appears to be broken and now displays a blank page instead.

    Hello Mark,

Please explain how someone could be logged in but not yet joined the site as a member.......

In this context it means "member of membership", not a member of the site. By membership we understand standard membership or dripped membership that are provided by Membership 2 pro.

Is there a way for me give users a choice to pick a role when signing up?

Not by default and not with only Membership. Other members were able to achieve that with this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-roles-at-registration/ and BuddyPress.

Is there a way to ensure that users are directed to the 'success' page after registering? Mine appears to be broken and now displays a blank page instead.

It is very possible that there is error there that prevents this site from showing Thank you page. Can run a quick plugin/theme conflict test as illustrated in getting support manual (flowchart)? I tried to check your site, but looks like you already disabled Membership.
