Moving a Multisite from a root domain to a sub domain

Hi Guys,

I am trying to move a multisite installation on stofstoor.co.za to rustenburg.localmall.co.za

I have copied all the files over, and the database, I have replaced all the links in the database from http://stofstoor.co.za/ to http://rustenburg.localmall.co.za/

So a network site such as http://stofstoor.co.za/vehicle-showrooms/ would now be on http://rustenburg.localmall.co.za/vehicle-showrooms/

But if you navigate to http://rustenburg.localmall.co.za/ you will see a database connection error.

I have confirmed with my host that the DB details in wp-config.php are correct.

Is it possible to install a Multisite/Network on a sub domain and then have a sub folder set-up for the network sites? Ex http://rustenburg.localmall.co.za/subsite1 etc...

Am I missing something here? Can you guys recommend a plugin for this migration scenario?

Thanks

My .htaccess file:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

# add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^ - [L]
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $2 [L]
RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$ $2 [L]
RewriteRule . index.php [L]
