MU/BuddyPress Site: Images Imported Correctly but Not Displaying.

I am implementing a WordPress MU/BuddyPress site at

http://proxyexchange.org

The base blog is working fine. I imported another, previously existing, blog, which is at

http://newcapitalist.proxyexchange.org

The import function placed all the images for that blog in:

/wp-content/blogs.dir/4/files/

I have confirmed via ftp that the images are all there. But those images are not displaying when I view the website in a browser. Viewing the webpage html, it is looking for the images in

http://newcapitalist.proxyexchange.org/files/

I can only assume that is the wrong path, because the images simply don't display.

If I go to insert an image in a post, the insert-image window lets me select an image on my hard drive and then uploads it. However, it displays no thumbnail of the image when it is 100% uploaded. Via FTP, I can confirm that the uploaded image is now on the server where all the other images for that sub-blog are (/wp-content/blogs.dir/4/files/). The uploaded image does not display in the post when I observe it in the editor or in a browser.

It appears the system is PLACING images in one location but LOOKING FOR them in another.

Thanks!

    Hi gholton and welcome to WPMU DEV!

    Have you checked in the media library to see if the images are available there? Or perhaps the url in the posts themselves to see if they're reflecting the proper location?

    And just to give you a few more ideas, the following thread discusses this issue:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/multisite-image-path-error?replies=35

    If you post your htaccess file, we can see if there's an issue there as well.

    Hi David:

    Thanks! it was the .htaccess. In that thread you pointed me to, Ipstenu provided complete code ffor what a typical buddypress .htaccess. I replaced mine with that, and the problem went away. My only concern is that the thread is 10 months old. Have there been releases to WordPress or BuddyPress since that would not be addressed in the .htaccess code Ipstenu provided?

    Here is that complete code:

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

    # uploaded files
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ - [L]
    RewriteRule  ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $2 [L]
    RewriteRule  ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$ $2 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

    Thanks!
