Multiple Subscriptions

The issue I am not having is that once someone signs up for as a visitor first and then decides to upgrade to daily, weekly, or monthly access Membership adds the paid for access to the user but still only continues to get them visitor access until I personal come in and make the change and remove visitor. What step did I leave out?

    Hey there.

So they get signed up to a guest level?

    The stranger level?

And then they make a payment but their account is not upgraded?

Are you using Paypal, is the payment confirmed in Paypal? Can you check the IPN history and post what’s there.

If it’s another gateway then please let me know.

We also have a beta release here:

    Membership 3.4.3 Beta

That does have a number of code changes which might also be worth testing. If you do then please report any issues to that thread directly.

    Take care.

Yes they first sign up as visitors “quest” and can only see certain portion of the website. Well once they upgrade to daily, weekly, or monthly it shows on the the back end they have upgraded and the gateways state PayPal Express but in the membership level it then has visitor and whatever they paid for but visitor is still the first opinion the system sees. I have to manually go in and remove the visitor subscription for the user to get access.

I am having the exact same problem. Needs to be able to use multiple subscriptions simulatnously. I think I know the problem.. I think its because when you use positive levels anything that isn’t positive is negative, what needs to happen is the second subscription needs to overide the negative value if any positive values are present.

I really hope this is fixed asap as they are working on the beta release now.

In my instance which is very similar in terms of the problem (just different setup),

We have Free Members also Annual Paid Members

Once the user is a paid member they then have access to other specialised addon subscriptions which they can purchase to allow even further specific functionality and content…

    ie.

Paid Members can signup to “Short Course Subscription”, “Long Course Subscription” and a few others…

When the user upgrade either via subscriptions/signup page or via a shortcode subscription once they have 2 subscriptions the content in the extra addon subscription (or in TMaloneEnt’s case Premium Subscription) they purchased will not display unless they are assigned only one subscription type in Membership > All Members.

If for instance I had Annual Members & Short Course Applied, my access levels seem to only accept the Annual Members subscription (the lower subscription where the short course content is not included in the positive rules, nor does it appear in any negative member rules either.. only in the positive rules of Short Course).

Annual Members & Short course in my case is all handled by the positive level url groups.

When I test with only 1 subscription applied everything works. (asides from the other problem you and I are discussing on the other posts with protected content pages.) But once 2 are in that’s when problems occur.

Do you mean they go to the registration page and pick a new subscription? If so then that’s not upgrading, that’s signing up for a new subscription – but as I asked above:

How are they upgrading? Can you walk me through the process they are going through to get this behaviour?

  • Ollie

They goto a page in the premium members area and there will be a signup button to take them through the process to add another subscription.

You’re correct my case it’s not so much an upgrade it’s more like a new subscription they add on. But they must stay subscribed as the previous paid subscriptions also.

    The process from very start;

    1.Signup as Paid Annual Member

    2. Login, then have access to new subscriptions they can add on.

    3. Press the subscribe button go through buying process. These add on subscriptions have a shorter duration and extra areas of the site enabled, hence why we need to split them..

When the user cancels their addon subscription, they remain a paid annual member.

Ok, you’ve lost me now – I thought the issue was them having two subscriptions at the same time, but now you are saying that is behaviour you want, in which case your issue is nothing like the original posters issue.

I am having the exact same problem

You are not, the original poster doesn’t want a member to be on two subscriptions. Can I suggest you open a new thread, as these aren’t related and will only confuse the issue. Thanks

They are related trust me I’ve tested this on multiple instances in different arrangements and some in the same as the original post with similar experiences.

Its all similar as if this issue gets sorted it will sort out the original problem but I will open a new thread though so we can get this sorted because I am extremely determined to get this resolved and I from reading the forums, many people have the same problem.

Not sure how? The OP says a user upgrades and gets added to second subscription they don’t want. You say they signup using the registration page (which is a different page to the upgrade page) and get a second subscription, which they would, they are signing up for a new subscription, and that is the behaviour you want.

The OP wants the upgrade to work via the upgrade page. You want a user to sign up to a new subscriptipn *not* using the upgrade page.
