multisite and marketpress are they the same plugin? I need to create an "etsy" like site.

i need to create a multisite like where different vendors can log in on their own and create pages and content and upload images to their individual sections. is marketpress the plugin to do this or are there others i need to be aware of? thank you

    Hey Bryan,

MarketPress sounds like it would be perfect for this. You will want to create a WordPress Multisite though.

WordPress Multisite is a feature within a default WordPress installation that you can activate to have multiple sites within one installation:

Then in MarketPress we support multisite so you can network activate it and easily have stores on each new site. You can even activate global cart so they can shop multiple stores within the network and checkout all at once.

Once you have multisite and MarketPress setup then you can have new users create sites and build their stores on.

You can take advantage of our New Blog Templates plugin:

That allows you to pre-setup some templates for the new users to have automatically applied on their sites  makes it easier for them.

    How does that sound?

    Look forward to hearing back!

thanks for your reply tyler. am i able to limit the users to only one template, preferably the one i will be using for the main store front. i just want them to be able to add pages and their own content, just like etsy. i already installed wordpress. am i able to activate or add the multisite feature? i certainly want the shoppers to be able to shop all sites and use only one check out cart. so, global cart sounds excellent. thanks, bryan

    Hey Bryan,

You can set a default template that is applied to every new site. I think that would be the best route to go in this case

You will need to re-create your site on a subsite though, as you are not able to select your main site as a template. The reason for this is because your main site includes global tables that you wouldn't want to copy over to new sites. In addition, you don't want to use a site that is always changing for your template in most cases, as new sites will be slightly different each time depending on the changes made to the template site. Best to create a dedicated template site that can be used for that sole purpose.

You can definitely activate multisite, yes

That page there will explain how to enable it.
