Multisite installation

I'm having problems with making a new site in my multisite installation. I want it as subdomains and this is my DNS configuration for the wildcard DNS. https://postimg.org/image/qvifwqxwn/

Wildcard seems properly created so it seems there's something else going on here.
Can you go to yourdomain.com/wp-admin/network/setup.php page and double check that correct code is added in both .htaccess and wp-config.php files?

You may want to get in touch with the hosting provider as well and confirm that they support multisite installations since, unfortunately, there are still some hosting providers out there that don't allow these installations.

Can you try moving the multisite lines in your wp-config.php from current location to between define('WP_DEBUG', false); and /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ lines?

This is the part of code to move:

Hi Marnick,

Thanks for sending those in, I had a look at your installation and as far as the WordPress part everything seems properly configured, there was a bit of a problem with defining sunrise in wp-config.php but I've took care of that already.

Unfortunately that didn't resolve the issue and subsites are still not working.
This is most likely related to wildcard configuration but I was unable to figure out the exact cause, the wildcard should be pointing to root of your WP installation folder and that seems to be the case but I might be missing something here.

It might be best checking with your host about this and ask them to setup wildcard for you, they should be able to do it in matter of minutes and that way we can be sure it's configured correctly.

Let us know what info you got from them.

  Thanks for your help. I contacted the support of my hosting and they said I need to add each subdomain in cPanel (I thought I didn't had to do that, that the wailcard was meant for that). Now it works, only the domain mapping still doesn't work. I configured all the DNS info to the right IP adress, but I can't get it mapped right. Can you take a look at that?

Hello Marnick van den Brand!

I checked your site and it seems that's a matter of domain configuration.

When you type an original URL of the sub-site that you wish to map the domain to, it loads that sub-site which is fine. However, when you type the "mapped domain" into browser address bar, it loads the default "placeholder" page from the server.

It happens usually because of one of these two reasons:

1. Domain is hosted "externally" to the site and only pointed to an IP using DNS A record (which is fine) but the IP is either not dedicated (it's a shared IP) or is dedicated but it's root folder is not configured.

2. Domain is hosted "locally" so it's added to the cPanel as an add-on/parked domain but it's configured to use its own root folder.

That said, I checked your site's IP and it seems that it's a shared IP (there's nearly a thousand domains using that IP). The solution then would be as follows:

- make sure that the mapped domain is added to your cPanel as an add-on domain
- edit its settings and make sure that it's "root folder" (otherwise known also as "document root") is set to be exactly the same as the "root folder" for the main domain of your site.

As a result, with mapping removed, typing that mapped domain to the browser address bar would load your main site and when you see that happening you would know that you can map that domain to any of the sub-sites of your Multisite.

  Yes the shared IP wa sthe problem (didn't knew that, sorry). Now I've bought a dedicated IP so now it works. Thanks for all the help!
