Multisite – New Site – Server Not Found

Task – Convert existing single install to multisite with sub-domain install.

Completed – Fresh Install, Activated Multisite, Imported contents to main site from single install and edited permalink. Now Main site works as expected.

Next – Trying to Create a new site. (site1.example.com)

After adding the new site, url is messed up – site1.example.comnewsitedb

After .com, url has name of the Database as suffix. I’m not sure how to fix this or what went wrong.

I figured out the solution as per this post.

Deleting $base=DB_NAME fixed the url error.

I still get sever not found after the fix.

Looks like I have to add wildcard DNS for sub-domain.

Went into cpanel and added 2 entries

    *.example.com and site1.example.com

After adding this, I still get server not found.

    Greetings rsmb007,

Sorry to here that you are having a struggle with your installation.

Best practice would have been to using WordPress export to get all the posts and information and import them into the already working MultiSite.

In addition, creating the sub domain *.example.com is absolutely incorrect, this should be just a DNS entry and the entry for site1.example.com is absolutely incorrect no matter where you placed this entry.

Looks like I have to add wildcard DNS for sub-domain

That is correct, just the wildcard.

However, though you have not disclosed the URL, it is on a dedicated IP is it not?

    What is the URL?

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe
