Multisite Server Migration - IP Address

I am running a multisite install with domain mapping and I am about to move it to a new server and point the domain. I want to know if there are any settings that I should change to make the main wordpress admin work via ip instead of domain so that I can run them concurrently in case I need to reference something.

Thanks!

    Hi there @rebron

I hope you are well today and thanks for your question.

This wouldn't be possible if moving to a different server, as the database records wouldn't have the IP as the site URL which would be needed, i.e, all domain records in the database would need to be the IP rather than the actual domain.

So in this case. I'd recommend creating a backup, transferring and then running a find and replace within the database if your changing to a URL.

Otherwise, you'd need to change it to the IP, transfer and then change it back, if that makes sense?

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards
    Jack.

I'm looking to change from the domain to the IP first, migrate, then point the domain to the new server. Is the DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE the only place to change the site name from domain to the IP in the multisite section of wp-config or am I missing a spot?

    Thanks,

    Hi there @rebron

I hope you are well today and thanks for your patience.

After talking with a colleague about this and testing, adding this

    define('WP_HOME','http://example.com'); define('WP_SITEURL','http://example.com');

To your wp-config.php should work, just replace the example URL with the IP

    Thank you!

    Kind Regards
    Jack.
