Need a Multisite (which is subdomain of main site) & need the Network's site to be as sub-d

1) Created Multsite (sub-domain): wordcamp.dev
2) Installed Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-multi-network/
3) Created Network (sub-domain): mumbai.wordcamp.dev
4) Installed Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/
5) Mapped: the sub-site: mumbai.wordcamp.dev
6) Converted the Mutisite to a sub-directory setup (previously: sub-domain)
7) Created a new sub-site under network: mumbai.wordcamp.dev/2016
8) ISSUE: when trying to access mumbai.wordcamp.dev/2016/wp-admin : unable to load, getting 404 error

Still lost!!

    Hi @leo,

Hope you are doing good today

    5) Mapped: the sub-site: mumbai.wordcamp.dev

With what domain you mapped this subdomain ?

    8) ISSUE: when trying to access mumbai.wordcamp.dev/2016/wp-admin : unable to load, getting 404 error

Dow the site works without going to wp-admin ? I mean when you access your site via this URL mumbai.wordcamp.dev/2016/, does this shows the site or goes to 404 page as well ?

Take care and have a nice day

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Sajid!

    5) since I was to change the WP-Multisite version to a sub-directory system; I mapped the sub-domain as the network's Primary domain [mumbai.wordcamp.dev]

    8) only '/wp-admin/' gave 'HTTPS 404'

MAKE A NOTE: It is exactly mimicking the wordcampr.org series... but i don't know what they have assigned the structure as? Sub-Dom / Sub-Dir / Combination / Or just a FIX via MU-PLUGIN folder?

    Hi Leo,

Hope you are doing good today and thanks for the clarification

I can see the WordCamp.org structure, it created a network with subdomain and then on subdomain created another network of site with subdirectory structure.

So, keeping that in mind, I am not sure why you have mapped the domain.

    In your case you have:

    1. wordcamp.dev main network with subdomain setup.

    2. On this network you created a site mumbai.wordcamp.dev.

    3. Then on this site you created another sub network with subdirectory setup.

    4. Then you created a site on this subnetwork with mumbai.wordcamp.dev/2016 (makes sense).

So my point is you are getting the same structure without mapping the domain. That's seems to be an extra step here. Would you mind removing the domain mapping plugin and then checking again

    Cheers, Sajid

    Hey Sajid,

If I don't map, how do I change the structure to mu sub-dir.
without mapping mumbai.wordcamp.dev will be read as wordcamp.dev/mumbai for the next sub-site under mumbai network will become, wordacamp.dev/mumbai/2016

    Hey Leo,

I tried to read all the stuff up top but there's too many words, but in a nutshell you wanted:

    1. wordacamp.dev - 1 multisite - to give you mumbai.wordacamp.dev & chennai.wordacamp.dev
    2. mumbai.wordacamp.dev - 1 multisite to give you - mumbai.wordacammp.dev/2016/welcome & mumbai.wordacamp.dev/2017/events

If that's the case the only way i can think of is basically a multisite of a multisite? where
    A.wordacamp.dev (1 layer) - subdomain based
    A.wordacamp.dev/B is (1 layer) - subfolder based

I'm not too flash on the details (in fact i dont know if you could even to 1 subdomain/ 1subfolder config) but here's some interesting reads and maybe this will take you to your solution.

    Hi @leo,

Hope you are doing good today

Can't you set one network on subdomain and the second one under it on a subdirectory ?

If the issue is with 404 on wp-admin and works on frontend then you can use actual URL for administration instead of mapped URL.

Also, I can see wordcamp.org have different setups with subdomains too like this one.
    https://2016.paris.wordcamp.org/

I am really not sure how they are managing the multi networks. I think its better ask them directly contact them or tweet them on twitter. They would be able to assist you better.

Take care and have a nice day

    Cheers, Sajid
