Need help getting New Blog Templates and Content Copier to clone a site correctly

We are an organization with 10 chapters and I am redoing our site to be more useful to the community. I am having trouble getting MU to work the way I thought it would. I have installed WPMU and have a whole bunch of plugins installed (membership, events, eNewsletter)that I have not tinkered around with yet but that should solve some problems for us. What I am trying to do right now is create sites that allow the Chapter Coordinators to edit just their own content and none of the main site's. There will be a link from the main site to each chapters URL but I want the theme/style to be the same on their pages and I want some content duplicated from the main page and a link back to the main page. I installed the New Blog Template Plugin and the Content Copier Plugin but I can figure out how to get them to work together the way I want them to...

    Hi @Samantha,

I hope you are well today and thank you for your question.

What I am trying to do right now is create sites that allow the Chapter Coordinators to edit just their own content and none of the main site's.

If Chapter Coordinators is associated with any role and content is added in post / page content then you can use any user role access manager plugin as following to achieve it.

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-access-manager/
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/user-access-manager/

There will be a link from the main site to each chapters URL but I want the theme/style to be the same on their pages and I want some content duplicated from the main page and a link back to the main page. I installed the New Blog Template Plugin and the Content Copier Plugin but I can figure out how to get them to work together the way I want them to...

How are you creating chapters and on which pages you want the theme/style to be the same?

Could you please explain it a bit more in detail sharing screenshots or wire frame of it?

You will find more information about usage of New Blog Template and the Content Copier Plugins on the following pages.

The page I am trying to work with is wash.org but the home page is redirected to the current existing site while I work on this one. If you go to wash.org/about-wash you can see the bare bones of the site with just the theme installed and a few pages set up. The "Chapters" link at the top should have each of the 10 chapters eventually. Southern Maryland Secular Humanists is there and should go to wash.org/somdsh. It did point there and it was just the defaul template, but when I tried to use the Blog Template and Content Copier to populate the site it went away and the Index/Parent Directory language appeared.

I want the chapter coordinators to be able to edit their own site, not anything else. The old site used role scoper for this (similar to the role access/manager links you sent it think) but it was cumbersome to have to add each of 10 chapter coordinators as a user than assign them a custom role and then create a page and allow them to access and edit it it. If they wanted to do anything interesting with their page they had to get an admin to set it up so they ended up just setting up a static pages and hardly ever updating them. I was thinking having them each have their own site under WPMU would allow them to do more customization/features but if you have a better idea please let me know!

    Hi @Samantha,

Southern Maryland Secular Humanists is there and should go to wash.org/somdsh. It did point there and it was just the defaul template, but when I tried to use the Blog Template and Content Copier to populate the site it went away and the Index/Parent Directory language appeared.

I can see this link is pointing to this page http://wash.org/southern-maryland-secular-humanists-somdsh/

Have you copied this page anywhere?

Could you please share me its link where you have copied it so that i can troubleshoot it?

You can just create new sub site for every chapter coordinator and make him administrator on that site so that he can make any changes there.

Alternatively you can just create pages for every chapter coordinators and grant permissions to chapter coordinator for specific pages so that only he can edit that page.

Right now the link in the main navigation just goes to a page I put up so there would be some content there. Eventually the links should be redirected to the subsites.

my thought had been to make each chapter's site into a sub site and give the coordinators the administrator. However I want the sub site to be a clone of the WASH Site with the same header, navigation menu, ect so from the user perspective it looks like you are on the same site. The problem is that I want each coordinator to be able to edit ONLY their own page and it needs to be simple for them to do so.

The previous admin had set it up with role scoper but that was pretty cumbersome. If you have a better, cleaner solution for granting permissions, let me know (I am also using membership to put content on the main site behind a wall for just coordinators if you have something that plays nicely with that)

    Suggestions?
