Need something like WPMU DEV Live Member Support

Hello all,

Greetings of the Day!

I want to add the Live Member Support (https://premium.wpmudev.org/live-support/) on one of my website. Do we have a plugin for the same? Is the WordPress Chat Plugin (https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/wordpress-chat-plugin/) similar to the Live Support?

Also, I want to know if admins can kick out members from the chat (in case of situations like abuse).

Thanks and Regards,

    Hello there Chetan,

    Thanks for your post.

You have got the right plugin selected : https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/wordpress-chat-plugin/

Its what you should use to create a live support session. It allows you to embed a chat in a WordPress page.

As a moderator you can ban users as well

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/wordpress-chat-plugin/#usage

You can block troublesome users from participating in chats using their IP or email addresses, and even block specific words to keep profanity to a minimum. You can also customize the messages that will display to users when any blocking occurs in a chat session.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

    Cheers, PC

    Hello all,

    Greetings of the Day!

Thank you PC. I have one more and a very important question. As this will be an invite only site, can I make this page available to only a few members and the rest of the site open to our regular paying member?

Also, this will be a live paid discussion forum. So is there a way to integrate something like Membership plugin so that people can pay for an hour's session and will be out when the discussion hour is finished.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hey there,

Sorry to for the delay as I had to be away from work for a few days due to some family emergency and could not get back to this any sooner.

Can you kindly confirm if the issue is still there or you got this sorted out in another thread or one of our live chat sessions ?

Please advise so that I can get this sorted out if its already not fixed !

    Standing by for your response.

    Cheers, PC

    Hello all,

    Greetings of the Day!

I haven't got the answer yet! Please do reply as to how I can charge members on an hourly basis. Also, shed some light on guest login which would be an hour's session only for that particular member. If this is possible, let me know how to do it.

    Hey there,

Sorry for having missed your last response on this one. I was away for a long time and had somethings to take care of and could not be here any sooner. Sorry if that caused you any issues.

Currently its not possible to charge users on an hourly basis unless you use Pay Per View : https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/pay-per-view/

So you can create a page where you can add a chat shortcode and the users can view that page on a per view basis. However that would not kick the member out once the hour is over. So you will need to manually close the chat.

Also, shed some light on guest login which would be an hour's session only for that particular member.

That is not possible without some custom coding as its not possible out of the box. However if you want someone to do that for you, a job requirement can be posted here : https://premium.wpmudev.org/jobs/

Let me see if our lead developer @Paul has got any other ideas on how that can be made possible. I have sent him a note and he should be around soon.

    Cheers, PC

    @Chetan Vengurlekar, @PC,

Yeah, I agree this would be a good feature to add to our chat plugin. Maybe some hook into Membership where based on the member level they can get XX amount of chat support time. Nothing really comes to mind on how to do this with the current plugin however.

    Hello Paul and PC,

    Greetings of the Day!

Thanks for the help. I've added Pay Per View on my website and I hope the development team will work on the Membership Plugin so that members can be given a time frame for their visit.

    Glad to help Chetan.

I have already moved this to "Features and Feedback" section so that we can get votes from other members as well and then push it on @Eugene Manuilov table for detailed analysis

    Hey @Paul,

Thanks, that is a nice idea

However I have a doubt about being able to use Events+ on a per view basis.

In our case, its restricted as per the user Membership level so it works fine ! Thoughts ?

    @PC,

What we run on DEV for our Live Support page is a slightly modified version of the Events+ plugin. Each Event uses the chat shortcode. True our setup is such that the member does not pay for each event/chat session but based on the membership level (gold members only). But the released version of Events+ we offer does have the option to make an Event free or purchase only. I was just going back to the original post of this thread asking about out Live Support page. Thinking that the admin can setup an Event with limit to say 5 attendees. The member has to pay to addend the event.

Maybe a better solution is using Appointments+ which works like Events+ but slightly different. Say I'm a one man support shop and can't have a group chat support. I want to allow my members to schedule support sessions they can purchase on the fly. I can setup Appoimnents+ with times for Mon, Wed and Fri times I'll be available for one on one support chat with a member. The member can see my schedule and see what slots are open. They pick a slot and make the purchase for that hour.

    Hello Paul,

    Greetings of the Day!

Thanks for answering my questions. I see that with a combination of various plugins, I can make the feature a payable option on my website.

Another of my concern is, by adding so many plugins won't my site be slow to load? This is a professional networking site and any lag in the load time will cost me clients and in turn huge money.

Please let me know if there is any plugin optimizer or anything that can be used to load the site faster with a huge list of plugins.

    Thanks and Regards,

Sure. That should always be a concern. The Events+ plugins does not add much of an overall impact on performance. Are you running any cache plugins like WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache?

  • Paul
    • The Green Incsub

    @Chetan Vengurlekar,

Yeah, I've seen issues with caching plugins especially on members sites where the view of the content changes based on an authenticated user. But they do help offset some of the loading that running too many plugin imposes. Double-edged sword I guess.

    Hey there Chetan,

    Thanks for posting back.

Using or not using them really depends on you to be honest. As Paul said, its a double edged sword. So if it creates issues, that can be painful but it also reduces the load time.

So its a sour medicine. It tastes bad but might be good for health

Any opinion on what I can do to make my site load faster on the computer as well as mobile devices?

This will suit a new thread as its different from what was originally posted in this thread so I will suggest you create a new thread if the below articles do not answer your questions !
