Network Wide Text Change missing setting

When I go to Branding > Text Change, the settings I’ve created are missing. The changes are still visible on the front and back ends, but I’m unable to remove the change from the UB settings.

Additionally, if I export my DB and import it to my localhost my text change settings reappear.

    Hey scooby,

Can you clear the cache and try again ?? Also what happens when you import locally, are you able see the text change settings on the local install ?

Also as a workaround would just adding a new text string to change that reverts the previous change work for you ??

    Cheers

    Hey Scooby,

Apologies for the delay here! I believe Jude’s link should have been going here: https://premium.wpmudev.org/manuals/using-wpmu-dev/getting-support/

Scroll down to the flow chart  that should help narrow it down. Make note of the “Tip: ” below the flow chart too – makes plugin testing a lot faster.

If you need any assistance with that just let us know. Look forward to hearing back!

    All the best,

    Tyler

I deactivated all MU plugins and all active plugins, reset cache and cookies, and there was no change. I also find it hard to believe that its a conflict because the exact same setup works just fine on localhost.

I can add changes and they work, I can select the blank “Add New” box and delete it and it will remove a random text change. The only issue is that it doesn’t display feedback as to what changes are setup.

Can I dig into the DB and remove something that might be clogging it up?

    Hey Scooby,

    Hope you’re doing well today!

What version of php do you have on your live server? If it’s 5.2 or less, try upgrading it to a more recent one

If it’s still not working do you mind granting support access so we can have a closer look?

You can grant support access via admin dashboard – WPMU DEV > Support > Support Access > Grant Access.

As for the DB, I’m not sure what in there would be causing the issue and definitely best if we don’t remove anything from there unless we know absolutely for sure that it is the issue. If you do go into your db looking around then make sure you do a backup first – the text change data is stored in the wp_sitemeta table and in the translation_table/translation_ops rows.

Hope that helps and look forward to hearing back!

    Cheers,

    Tyler

    Hey Scooby,

Thanks for granting support access! Did the site begin on localhost? Or did you start it on the live server?

Just wondering if maybe the issue is that some urls haven’t been replaced.

What are you using to migrate it? You could try pushing the DB from your localhost to the live site using a plugin such as this:

    https://github.com/wp-sync-db/wp-sync-db

and if you want to include media: https://github.com/wp-sync-db/wp-sync-db-media-files

It does all the searching and replacing for you as well.

Have you tried enabling debug on the live server as well? https://codex.wordpress.org/WP_DEBUG that can often give clues to why something isn’t working.

Just add this line to your wp-config.php then visit the text change page and see if any warnings/notices/errors pop up

    define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );

    Look forward to hearing back!

    Cheers,

    Tyler
