New plugin suggestion: Batch create for groups

Hi!

I need some way to create a batch of groups for BuddyPress from the backend.

It would be enough to have something similar to Batch Create plugin (from this site) but intended to create groups.

Is this possible?

I’m using a command-line tool right now, so I’d be about something that’s integrated that we don’t have to maintain.

Sounds cool – I imagine it’d be even better if it offered the csv creation option alongside a form based one, so people could choose the approach based on their skill levels.

We’d like to pre-create groups with familiar titles over a number of geographical regions, so some kind of batch create (ideally with csv import options) would be great.

We’ll look into developing this plugin since a good number of members are interested. It would definitely be form based instead of using csv files though. A lot of members have trouble creating csv files so we try to make everything user friendly :slight_smile:

Hi all, I’d like to revive this topic and +1 for batch creating groups.

In the meantime, perhaps someone can give me some direction. Here’s what I need to do: I need to create groups for all 454 U.S. Congressional Districts and (since hardly anyone knows what Congressional District their in) automatically assign users to their correct Congressional district according to their postal zip code. I have the database of zip codes per congressional districts. There is one hiccup for added complexity: Congressional Districts aren’t numbered 1-454, but instead are named by State, then numbered consecutively. For example here’s a mock data-set:

Anyone want to offer some advice on how to do this relatively painlessly? All suggestions gratefully accepted…
