New possible project advice sought

Hello. Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question. But I will give it a go. I want to create a web page that operates in very similar ways to the wordpress.org plugin pages. Im not doing plugins but I want to have an About tab and a support forum unique for a specific user. Therefore many users having individual page and forum. The star rating and highlighting the individual as the “author” on that page would also be nice. Graphically a banner accross the top too would be good.

Im more worried about how to make the multiple users having individual forums on sepate pages. This needs to be flexible to add many many as the database grows.

Any advice greatly appreciated in a direction to approach this.

Thanks

Leigh

    Hello @leigh

I hope you are well today and thanks for asking the question.

BBPress is the most popular plugin for forum. Also it easily integrates with BuddyPress if you want to use that too.

Another popular forum plugin is SimplePress. It has lots of flexibilities to use.

About the banner, you need to customise it via css.

If you want individual sites for each user, you can use multisite option. To know more about multisite:

    Okay. Thanks.

I was hoping that multisite would be avoidable but I dont mind going that direction if required. Will the wordpress.org site use multi site?

In terms of turning the forum into a support forum, like we are using now I have found a plguin that does turn the bbpress into support forum, but i wondered if there is option you suggest?

Just to clarify..the multisite option is how I would allow for a “plugin author” type label to give that user the notified position within the forum?

    Thanks for your help.

Well, multisite is avoidable. You will use multisite only if you really need it. if you don’t want your users to have a subsite, why will you use multisite  It will need much more memory.

To run a forum, you will need a multisite. BBPress and SimplePress are already forum. There is no difference between forum and support forum. You may need some additional plugins to make the forum user friendly

If you are new to this, I will recommend to use bbpress as it has a lots of additional plugin out there. But I would test both plugin in my local site, play with them and then decide one.

Just to clarify..the multisite option is how I would allow for a “plugin author” type label to give that user the notified position within the forum?

I think you need to develop it custom. As you may notice our support forum includes a lots of functionalities that won’t be see anywhere and all of those are custom developed by our developer.

Hope it helps! Please feel free to ask more question if you have.

    Cheers
