Newbie Questions

I just installed a new wiki yesterday (66404_wordpress-wiki-1.1.3) which is located at the link below. So far I'm mostly happy with it and so congrats on packaging a nice product. We have identified a number of issues and hope to learn about solutions or workarounds to these problems. I appreciate the help!

http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home/

1) Major bug where WordPress’ “Visual View” is broken with anonymous user, and requires the person to hand-hack HTML code.

2) Cannot re-order Sub-wiki pages. They are displayed chronologically. The wiki root must have two directories (e.g. http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home), it cannot have just one which would be preferred (e.g. http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki).

3) Review a "Recent Changes" page that is automatically updated with all of the wiki changes. Similar to what mediawiki can do.

4) Review the IP Address of anonymous editors in the revision history.

5) Bug where the “Visual Tools” clobber the sidebar navigation on the right (possibly on our theme b/c of the right side-bar). A workaround is to hit the full-screen editing button. Using Google Chrome.

6) Cannot change URLs to wiki pages. The URL is set based on the original title given to the page and cannot be changed.

    Greetings psl,

    Welcome to WPMU Dev!

    1) Major bug where WordPress’ “Visual View” is broken with anonymous user, and requires the person to hand-hack HTML code.

I am unable to reproduce this error but my test environment has Ultimate Tiny MCE installed, in addition we do not allow anonymous users either. This issue is not being played off though - I am going to try to bring the developer in here for all unresolved items (see below)

    2) Cannot re-order Sub-wiki pages. They are displayed chronologically.

I can't reproduce the issue with sub wikis not sorting according to menu order. How do you have the menu order, from the Wiki Edit screen?

2b) The wiki root must have two directories (e.g. http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home), it cannot have just one which would be preferred (e.g. http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki).

This will be developer deferred, please see below.

    3) Review a "Recent Changes" page that is automatically updated with all of the wiki changes. Similar to what mediawiki can do.

This looks like it is a feature request.
You can now make plugin and feature requests here:
    http://wpmudev.uservoice.com/

The more popular a request is and the more votes it gets, the more likely it will be considered.
It might have already been suggested. It is worth a quick search to add your votes before submitting a new suggestion.

    4) Review the IP Address of anonymous editors in the revision history.

This is another feature request perhaps?

    5) Bug where the “Visual Tools” clobber the sidebar navigation on the right (possibly on our theme b/c of the right side-bar). A workaround is to hit the full-screen editing button. Using Google Chrome.

I cannot reproduce this in our theme - testing with Twenty Eleven - Developer Deferred.

    6) Cannot change URLs to wiki pages. The URL is set based on the original title given to the page and cannot be changed.

In summary these are the main items for the Developer to look into asap where the non included seem to represent feature requests to please be sent to feature request area mentioned above, if these are bugs and not feature requests please re-submit in a seperate ticket after the below items have been resolved. (Bolding is meant for Developer Attention) :

    1) Major bug where WordPress’ “Visual View” is broken with anonymous user, and requires the person to hand-hack HTML code.

2b) The wiki root must have two directories (e.g. http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home), it cannot have just one which would be preferred (e.g. http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki).

I'll see if I can get the lead developer in here asap to assist / give you some advice... in the meantime if you could post the results / problems you've come across doing it yourself here that would definitely help too.

Thanks again and it is great to have you as a WPMU Dev member, looking forward to getting these issues worked out!

    Cheers, Joe

Hi, thanks for the fast response!

    1) If you need a test instance to reproduce the problem, you should be able to see it here: http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home/?action=edit

    2) I don't understand what you mean by "menu order", I don't see this setting anywhere. Would you mind explaining? If I view our wiki homepage, all of the sub-wikis are in the order that they were created (last one was the last one created). I'd like to be able to re-order these, or maybe there is a workaround? For instance: http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home/

3,4) Yes, feature requests, but thanks for confirming that these functions don't presently exist.

    5) Not critical, but most people don't even know that the "full-screen" option is available and just assume something is wrong. You can see it here:

    6) This might be a feature request. The workaround here is to just delete the page and recreate it. Not critical.

    Thanks again! -Chris

    Quick update:

    2) Resolved using the Order option in the Advanced settings. I wasn't in advanced mode and didn't see the Order option. Thanks!
    https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/sub-wikis-dont-adhere-to-order

2b) I saw somebody reference in the forums that they resolved this problem by leaving the slug blank. This doesn't work for me and results in a 404 message. I did the following:

    i) Went to this page: http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home/
    ii) Removed the slug
    iii) Went here: http://phillystartupleaders.org/wiki/home/ (returns a 404)
iv) Went here http://phillystartupleaders.org/home/ (also returns a 404)

    I have two new questions!

    7) Is it possible to display the full hierarchy of sub-wikis? In the sub-wiki menu, you can only see all direct children, but not grand-children.

    8) Why are there two forums for the same product? I got much more value out of the first forum, but didn't realize it until after several hours in the wrong one.

    Greetings psl,

Thank you for being a WPMU Dev member!

Unfortunately there is no easy solution to solving this conflict with Jetpack and of course developers of both plugins (i.e. Wiki, Jetpack ) cannot possibly account for every possible contingency and combination that can possibly arise.

In further research one or the other would have to have major re-coding to "play nice together" as you had stated.

Though recoding one or the other is completely beyond the mandate of this forum or WPMU Dev, as an alternative, you could see if there's a developer available at wpmu jobs who could get onto it right this minute.

Thanks again for being a WPMU Dev member!
