Noob needs help switching from a test site & submitting feed

I had help setting up my site as a test site at http://69.89.31.52/~recaree1/ .

What do I need to do to have my site resolve to http://reCareered.com as a live site?

Also, my blog is set up as http://69.89.31.52/~recaree1/blog/category/recareered-blog/, after switching to a live site it will be http://reCareered.com/blog/category/recareered-blog/ . How do I get an RSS feed of just my blog (not the whole site) that I can forward to Feedburner?

Thanks,

Phil Rosenberg

    Hiya Phil,

What do I need to do to have my site resolve to http://reCareered.com as a live site?

Have you pointed your domain name to the server through an a record or DNS settings with your registrar (a company like godaddy).

How do I get an RSS feed of just my blog (not the whole site) that I can forward to Feedburner?

I think the link you provided (http://reCareered.com/blog/category/recareered-blog/ ) is a link to your specific blog, right? If so, just grab the RSS feed from this page. You should be able to click the icon in your browser next to the URL (that's where it is on firefox at least).

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need more specific answers!

    Thanks!

Hi Mason - thanks for the advice. Contacting my host today.

I'm transferring my site from Blogger to WP/BP, and transferring the feed is my last step before I make the leap over to WP/BP for good.

As for the RSS issue, it looks like WP sets up Feedburner automatically through a plugin & Feedburner configuation. That's great if you're setting up a new blog or have never used Feedburner before.

My issue is that I have a Feedburner account already with years of data and subscribers that I don't want to lose. It currently takes the original feed from my blog on Blogger (I transferred the archives to WP). All I need to do on Feedburner is to input the new original feed URL from WP, but I can't find it anywhere on the WP/BP dashboard. When I tried clicking the RSS icon to the right of the URL on FireFox, it still gave me the existing Feedburner feed - from Blogger. It didn't give me the original feed from WP/BP.

The RSS URL has gotta be in there somewhere, can you help me find it?

    Thanks!

    Mason,

    HELP!!!!!

Before the RSS question, I've still got problems getting my site to change the URL to http://reCareered.com from its original set up (as a test site) at http://69.89.31.52/~recaree1/ .

I spent about 2 hours on the phone with BlueHost, who couldn't figure it out, even though they tried doing a general replace on the SQL database with the new domain name. The only change is that my Logo no longer appears on the site. I'm concerned it's a huge mess. They are recommending reinstall/reconfigure under the new domain, then restoring SQL & Data backups. It sounds like a disaster in the making for my skill level.

I found some technical guidance at http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL , but I'm petrified to try it.

Can you help me here? Is there an easy answer, or a way you can walk me through it without having the whole thing explode on me?

    Thanks,

    Phil Rosenberg

    Hiya Phil,

Without knowing how your site was installed initially (wp-config and database entries) I'm not able to help a whole lot. I can see the domain is getting sent to http://69.89.31.52/~recaree1/

It's definitely a setup issue with your server or WordPress (and fixable without an entire re-installation) but I'm not really sure how to help guide you in fixing it as I can't see it myself.

Your hosting provider should be able to help you with this. Is WordPress installed on the root domain of your install AND is reCareered.com that root domain?

If the answer's no, then you need your host to change this for you. They should be able to do this although sometimes they'll charge you an extra fee.

If both the above are yes, then it's a WordPress installation issue. The link you gave above is a good starting point. I generally just go into the database (you should have access to PHPMyAdmin through cPanel on BlueHost) and make the changes manually. You'd want to look at the wp_site table and siteurl and home entiries in the wp_options table.

    Hope this helps. Thanks!

    Masonjames,

Got the site URL fixed - but not have to get the feed onto feedburner. When I click the RSS icon on Firefox, I get the feed from my legacy blog on blogger.

I want to use the Feedburner feed that I set up originally for my legacy blogger blog at http://feeds.feedburner.com/reCareered. I want the original feed on feedburner to be the feed from the blog on my WPBP site http://www.recareered.com/blog/category/recareered-blog/, so I don't lose original email and RSS subscribers.

I can't figure out how to get the feed onto my feedburner account. Can you help?

    Thanks, Phil
