    Hello Stephen and Julian !

Hope you’re having a good day!

The main Uptime service is running on a server located in the USA – in Virginia to be exact, but we are also using one host for this service located in Frankfurt.

Edit: got a clarification from the Uptime team right now.

Response time is calculated from Virginia (probably due to the USA East Coast having the best internet connections to other parts of the world), outages have to be confirmed by both locations before being marked as down.

    Hope this helps!

    Kind regards,

    Pawel

        Hello Julian !

Uptime is more of a diagnostic tool useful for getting notifications about any unusual changes in response times that would continue for a longer period of time – signifying there might be an issue with the site. This is the main use of Uptime. In this case, the exact values of the stat are less important than having the same environment for the test so the results are consistent and meaningful (in this case Uptime server always performing the checks from the same location, wherever it may be).

There’s always a trap when measuring response times from outside of the host itself, as no matter where the requests come from, there’s always going to be an added delay. Besides measuring response time from localhost, which would remove any additional network delays, there can’t be a real objective metric of response time for any site.

        Hope this helps!

        Kind regards,

        Pawel
