Pictures not Appearing on Site after Attempted Clean after Hack

I created a backup using backup Guard and have 26 Wordpress core files in WP Defender that show bad. I made a backup before making any changes. When I started cleaning up and erasing files the site became unresponsive. I restored the files I deleted via FTP and attempted restoring the backup and now I have images that won't load and the site is unresponsive. I was attempting to clean up the site since they had been hacked and had redirectors to a porn site. Please let me know what I can do. I have opened up support access to the site currently.

    Hey Ben,

Sorry to hear you're having such issues from getting your site back to normal after the hack :slight_frown:

I had a look at Defender reports and see that there are quite a few reports in there, it seems like not only that there are some non WP files in your installation there are also some files that were tumbled around.

It's possible that one file has been moved to different path so when you remove it from there your site will not work.

My suggestion is to reinstall your WP files, you can do this by going to wp.org, download WP zip file, unpack it and upload the files to your site and overwrite the old ones, just make sure to leave wp-content folder and wp-config.php files intact.
This way you will overwrite the WP files with the original one but still keep your site and it's content.

After that re-run Defender scan and see if everything clears up.

    Best regards,
    Predrag

    Hi Ben,

It seems like the issue is only not happening on 1920px screens, as soon as I start responsive mode in Chrome it redirects to porn sites, regardless if I select smaller or larger screen resolution.

What I did notice in errors while testing your site is that your theme is using timthumb.php script, which is really strange since this has been recorded as security issue years ago, it was quite big and the script developer abandoned it completely so did theme developers that were using it, I'm surprised to still see it included in themes.

There are also some scripts and CSS files being loaded from your uploads folder, can you check your Uploads folder as well as its subfolders and clear up any unwanted files from there?

    Best regards,
    Predrag
