Pointing one of my sites to a URL

Hey can you guys we point the domain for my Moving U Junk U site ( id = 5 ) to movingujunku.com can you make it so when someone types in movingujunku.com that it displays the home page from the Moving U Junk U site to that url and any other sub pages to movingujunku.com/thatsubpagenamefromwordpressmovingusite

    Hello Alex,

How did you point your domain to your multisite installation? From what I see you pointed it directly to root directory, but your WordPress is not installed there - it is subdirectory installation.
You would need to point that domain to that particular directory - if you are using A record now, you might want to try changing this to add-on domain instead. This way you will be able to point it precisely to wordpress directory (where is your installation).

If you are using cPanel here is how to add add-on domain https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/ALD/Addon+Domains

Before you can do that, you will need to change domains Name Servers to your servers one.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

Hello, thanks for your quick reply! We do not have a cPanel of any kind -- right now I have A NAME record and CNAME records as follows:

    NAME TYPE TTL DATA
    @ A 5m 34.226.107.10
    www CNAME 5m movingujunku.com

It is true what you said about /wordpress/ being a sub-directory installation is true. If you look at attached wp.png, you will see what I see when I browse directly to that IP (static IP of our server).

Would it help if moved everything in C:\Apache24\htdocs\wordpress up one level, changing it to a standard non-subdirectory installation?

Also, by the way we are using domains.google as the movingujunku.com Registrar; so they offer some domain forwarding options but I do not think they satisfy our requirements.

Is there a way to set this up to mask /wordpress/ from the user/browser location bar?
We don't want to show /wordpress/ in the final URL the user sees... so do I have to move the wordpress directory up one level as described above?

Or is what I am asking about require some sort of server-side URL re-write? (we are running apache on windows)..

Thanks again for your help with this!

    Hello Alex,

Would it help if moved everything in C:\Apache24\htdocs\wordpress up one level, changing it to a standard non-subdirectory installation?

If you configure your server in way that IP address will open main site of your Multisite - then A record for domain you are mapping will work correctly. And there will be no more /wordpress at the end of the mapped domain (there will be no need to do any rewrites).
So to summarize - yes, if your WordPress installation will be in the root of your server then mapping will work correctly without additional changes in the domain DNS settings.

    kind regards,

We tried moving the site into the root of the htdocs and got this error

"The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator to inform them of the time this error occured, and the actions you performed just before this error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log."

"Plugin mysqlx reported: 'Failed at SSL configuration: "SSL context is not usable without certificate and private key"'For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://www.mysql.com.

Failed to set up SSL because of the following SSL library error: SSL context is not usable without certificate and private keyFor more information, see Help and Support Center at http://www.mysql.com. "

We updated the wp-options table to reflect the new url to be pointed too and this did not work.

Is there a way we can hop on a gotomeeting to get more clarity on how to resolve this issue.

    Hello Alex,

Only way we provide support is through forum or live chats https://premium.wpmudev.org/live-support/

I researched that error and found this post https://df.tips/t/topic/191 - can you try this solution?

Also I would like to correct my statement from previous post https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/pointing-one-of-my-sites-to-a-url#post-1283776 - I consulted with my colleagues and if Multisite is installed inside own directory then unfortunately Domain Mapping will always add directory to mapped domain - and it doesn't matter if A record is used or add-on domain. I apologize for providing incorrect information.
So to make it work, WordPress installation needs to be moved to root directory.

    kind regards,
    Kasia
