pop up from referrer does not work

Hey guys,

I would like to do the following: When ever a customer arrives via a specific bit.ly (shortend link) I wanne display a different pop up.
I tried to manage with the preference "from a specific referrer" a pasted "http://hauptstadtmutti.de/lifestyle/es-wird-unheimlich-viel-druck-auf-gruender-ausgeuebt-start-up-librileo"
But it does not work.
Any idea?
If I setup "Close button acts as "Never see this message again" link " for another popup, does this setup also apply for any other popup?
Best, Julius

Hey @Julius, hope you're doing well today, welcome to the WPMU DEV Community!

I tried to manage with the preference "from a specific referrer" a pasted "http://hauptstadtmutti.de/lifestyle/es-wird-unheimlich-viel-druck-auf-gruender-ausgeuebt-start-up-librileo"
    But it does not work.
    Any idea?

I'd like to have a closer look at the settings for this popup, could you please enable Support Access to your site?

Alternatively, could you send in the following:

    - Mark to my attention, the subject line should contain only: ATTN: Michael Bissett
    - Do not include anything else in the subject line, doing so may delay our response due to how email filtering works.
    - Link back to this thread
    - Include WordPress admin access details
    - Include any relevant URLs for your site

On the contact form, select "I have a different question", this ensures it comes through and gets assigned to me.

If I setup "Close button acts as "Never see this message again" link " for another popup, does this setup also apply for any other popup?

It should only affect that particular popup, the others should display just fine.

    Kind Regards,
    Michael

    Hey @Julius,

In regards to the first issue, it looks like we've run into a bug here with the "From a specific referrer" rule, I can confirm that it's not working on my test site, and have notified the developer of such.

In regards to your 2nd question, which you had commented further on in the email you sent:

I turned off "close button off acts like…" but still the pop up does not appear again. I don't see any way, if my pop up works the specific url I set up…
I want the popup to appear just on "librileo.de/bestellen"

This would appear to be due to the "From a specific referrer" rule not working properly, are you having this issue with any other popups on your site? What happens if you try creating a new one, does it show up then?

    Please advise,
    Michael

    Hey Michael and Julius,

I have tested the Referer rules just now and everything was working fine.
One thing that I noticed might explain the issue you describe, Julius:

When bitly redirects to the target page then it removes the referer information. So when you open a bitly link then our PopUp plugin thinks that the user types the URL into the browser directly...

However, there is a rather simple way to solve your issue:
    - In bitly you shorten the URL "http://yoursite.com/blog-page?ref=bitly"
    - Now you add the rule "On approximate URL: ?ref=bitly" to the PopUp

you see the URL param "?ref=bitly" in the shortened URL - this param has no effect on the page itself but you can check for this param in the PopUp. You can name it anything you like...

Thanks for your feedback, Philipp
