preventing site from being indexed

Is there a plugin that can prevent a wordpress site from being indexed by the search engines?

    Hello Corn,

I hope you're well today and thank you for your question!

WordPress already includes such feature within its core. In order to use it, please go to the "Settings -> Reading" page in your site's dashboard and scroll it all the way down. There's a "Search Engine Visibility" checkbox there so make sure that it's marked/ticked and save changes.

This should stop most of the "legit" search engines (such as e.g. Google, Bing etc) from indexing your site.

There are unfortunately some other search engines/bots that doesn't matter much on a market but are used by either very narrow/specific niche sites or by spammers that just try to gather the data from your site. Some of these crawlers may not respect that settings and the only solution in such case is to block them on .htaccess level or use some security plugin such as iThemes Security or Wordfence that actively block such scripts.

    I hope that helps!

    Best regards,
