problem with the speed of hummindird after upgrades

hello.

hummindird was working ok. after some late upgrades it start to get very slow on my web site.

I use Extra theme. all metrics come perfect. but speed is terible.

I deactivate all plugins and check again. nothing.

Plus Browser Caching is not working. my server is apache + ngix.

module mod_expires for Apache is on. for ngix i am waiting for a confirmation ( i ask long time a go and it was and made the changes that you recommend).

Also Super-minify my files is not working.

Also it would be nice if you make a nice post on how to use redis and some advance tips on speed.

You can see the difference on the speed with two pages.

and

Thanks a lot

    Hi nicolas,

Sorry to know that you are having issues with the plugin, just to be clear did you meant whether the plugin is slow, or your website? I checked your website in Page Speed, and Pingdom, and I could see the score is 50, and you could improve the score by improving the image optimization with WP Smush PRO.

At the moment the images are marked as Compressing & Resizing which means that the images are bigger that the content width of your theme, and hence it’s being marked in Google Page speed.

You can improve those by resizing, and compressing the image at the same time, by enabling the option Resize original images, and resizing the images individually in order to fix this, under Media > WP Smush >Resize Original images

However, in pingdom it’s is giving a response of connection error, which is odd.

Plus Browser Caching is not working. my server is apache + ngix.

module mod_expires for Apache is on. for ngix i am waiting for a confirmation ( i ask long time a go and it was and made the changes that you recommend).

Could you please share the link to the thread where the changes were recommended. Since you have already preformed plugin conflict test, I would like to give a closer look at your website configuration to have a better idea about why browser cache, and super minify isn’t working as expected.

Also it would be nice if you make a nice post on how to use redis and some advance tips on speed.

I’ll definitely pass this to our content writers for their consideration. Would also recommend you to create a thread in our members forum, experienced members would be of tremendous help, if they run such a similar setup. Please check the following links, you might find this helpful:

    Hi nicolas,

Hope you are doing good today.

Since you did say that Hummingbird plugin was working fine before, just to be sure, did browser cache worked before? Or it didn’t work at all in your system?

I checked your website in pingdom, and I could see that your server is having a very slow response time, ie 4.9 seconds. I then deactivated Hummingbird, and checked whether it would make any difference, but it didn’t. Then tried disabling all the plugin, and the server response time improved to 2.69 seconds.

    All plugins disabled: https://tools.pingdom.com/#!/duoQgQ/holistic-therapies.gr

This seems to be more related to your server, implementing cache should help improve your speed of your website. You might find the following article helpful, on improving your server response time.

Please do let us know how that goes, so that we could give a closer look, if needed. Have a nice day.

    Kind Regards,

    Hello nicolas,

Humminbird can improve certain aspects of your site – gzip, browser caching, minification – that can be managed and improved on site.

But if server is very slow (like on shared hostings can be) then Hummingbird can’t squeeze for it.

more. Then you have to try with additional cache plugin (like WP Super Cache) – they can improve things more.

Another thing is using big plugins like WooCommerce – they can slow down site on different layer than Hummingbird works.

But on good server even huge site with big plugins can work very fast.

    kind regards,

    Kasia
