What can I do to get better image quality on the image used for products? They seem very fuzzy:

Hello Logan, I hope you are doing well today!

Are you using a custom image size in Store Settings? Please navigate to Store Settings > Presentation > Product Page Setting section and set the Medium Image size 300 x 300

Or navigate to Settings > Media and change the max height size to 700px of the Medium image size.

After these changes, you'll have to regenerate all the thumbnails. To regenerate thumbnails, please use the following plugin:

Please have a back up of your site before making any changes. Plugin for backup:

    I hope this helps!

Greetings. I had it already set to 300px-by-300px (medium, cropped).

I just tried the latter option, setting the max-height on medium images to 700px, then uploaded a new image (so the new version should have been created, right? No need to regenerate), but no change in results.

I have also granted support access:

    Thank you!

Hello Logan, I trust you are doing well today!

I changed the image size in Store Settings > Presentation > Product Page Settings section from Medium to Large and the product's image quality is better now.

I've also taken the liberty and changed the image size from small thumbnails to Medium size in Product List/Grid Settings for better image quality on the Product page.

Let us know if you require any further assistance!

Thanks, Nastia. What if I want medium sized with higher quality? Could I leave it to 'large' and then upload smaller image files (I assume WP does not 'expand' images?)?

It certainly does look better now...I am just concerned it may be too big overall and I think learning this will be helpful if I deploy more great marketpress sites!

    Hello Logan,
    Hope you doing great!

Images might not look good because either the original image was not that good, or wordpress has resized it, or some css is distorting it. Here are some general tips you might find useful:

    1. In general it is good to resize your images before you upload them to wordpress (with photoshop or GIMP which is free).

    2. Keep concise dimensions. If your theme outputs them in a 600x400px box, then you can upload a 1200x800px image, but not a 800x450px and definitely not 500x400px. Try and use the same dimensions for all products. Don't overdo it with the dimensions though, you should try keep the image size a small as possible to reduce pageload time.

    3. When editing your image (before uploading it) use the RGB color space.

    4. PNG look better than JPG but they have bigger file-sizes. If you are using JPG you may consider adding this snippet in your theme's functions.php:
    add_filter( 'jpeg_quality', create_function( '', 'return 100;' ) );

Finally, make some tests immediately after uploading your first image and delete and re-upload until it looks good . Note the dimensions and resize accordingly the rest of the images you want to upload.

Hope you find this information useful!
