    Hello Bob

    Thank you for your questions!

    1. In the discussion forums for a course, can students upload images of their work - jpg or png files - that would be attached to the discussion and viewable to others in the group?

    Out of the box, it is no possible to add an image to a Discussion module. But if the image is added with < img > embed tags the image will show:

    <img src="https://imageURL.com/file/image.png">

    2. Does the forum allow private messaging and/or private messaging between participants?

    The CoursePress includes only Discussion section that looks like this:

    Please note, the appearance depends on the active theme.

    You can install Private Messaging plugin so users could communicate with each other. Students can chat one on one when a new message received a notification will show up, they could also share files in the messages. Each time a new message will arrive, students will see a notification. The plugin includes shortcodes for front-end messaging

    3. Can videos be embedded directly in a lesson?

    Yes, video can be embedded from Youtube, Vimeo link or it can be uploaded to the Media Library. Its supports video extensions - mp4, m4v, WebM, ogv, WMV and FLV.

    It is also possible to embed an image, audio file, compressed file and PDF, DOC, TXT files.

    4. Can PDF files be embedded directly in a lesson with restrictions on downloading?

    I am afraid no, the PDF can be added as downloadable files only. PDFs can be embedded with the Simple PDF View plugin, which working well with CoursePress, though the PDF files still can be downloaded.

    Hope this will help! Please let us know if you have any further questions!

    Kind regards,
    Nastia
