Register issue with BuddyPress installed on a sub-site

Hello,
In my WPMU network, to have a better structure, I installed the BuddyPress on a sub-site. To archive that, I followed the guide in buddypress official site, adding the code in wp-conf.php
define ( 'BP_ROOT_BLOG', 21 );
So, my buddypress site is http://buddy.mydomain.com.

The problem is:
When users wants to register, they will be redirected to http://buddy/mydomain.com/register. In the register form, the blog part shows, http://____.mydomain.com will be their site name.
- However, after submission, http://subsitename.buddy.mydomain.com is created!
- And, after activation, the password users have set during registration does not work at all.

What may cause this issue and how to solve this?

Regards
YZ

    Hi Yudong,

Hope you are doing good today.

I did give a test in my subdomain which is similar, but I have subsite as a subdirectory, and it works fine in that. I could tell more about it, if I could test your website, and check your configuration, and test extensively to rule out the issue whether it's related to the subdomain install, or something else. Since you didn't mention the domain name, I couldn't test it in your website, if its okay for you then please grant support staff access so I can take a closer look.

You can grant access from WPMU DEV > Support > Support Access > Grant Access, or check this manual:
    http://premium.wpmudev.org/manuals/wpmu-dev-dashboard-enabling-staff-login/

Please let us know once you enable access, so that we could get this sorted asap. Have a nice day.

    Kind Regards,
    Nithin

With regard to the self-password issue, I can confirm that it is because of the BuddyPress 2.6.1 release. I reduced BuddyPress to v2.5.3 and self-password is working !
The site with Support Access open is using buddypress v2.5.3 now.

But could you please help me with the subsite issue(**.buddy.mydomain.com)?

    Regards
    YZ

    Hello Kasia,
    Thanks!

I activated BuddyPress on my buddy. subsite only, and just registered a user. Unfortunately, the blog name is still like ***.buddy.mydomain.com.
I have STMP activated, so you may also be able to register.

    Regards
    YZ

    Hello Kasia,
    Yes.
I installed BuddyPress on buddy.mydomain.com, and activated in Network.
What I expect to be: when a user register a subsite, s/he will get a sub-site like this, name.mydomain.com
The reality is: s/he will get name.buddy.mydomain.com

However, in the registration form(the default form after BuddyPress activation), it says ___.mydomain.com.

Do you think it is possible to solve? Do you think it is somehow a bug?

    Regards
    YZ

    Hello YZ,

Thanks for additional information - I was able to replicate the same issue on my testing subdomain multisite with only BuddyPress installed.
It is creating subsites as subdomains to subdomains - and they are working fine - except the wrong url.
I tried to google if that is bug or simple case of configuration, but I didn't find anything. Unfortunately I'm not a BuddyPress expert :slight_frown: to go with this further - its worth trying to ask on BuddyPress forum https://buddypress.org/support/ if this is actual bug or BB works that way.

I will ask other support staff members about this issue, maybe they had experience with it.

    kind regards,
    Kasia
