"register" page Vs "wp-signup.php" page

in the "manuals" section of mpmudev the buddypress tutorials describes how there are two different registration pages for buddypress and WP multisite, which are "http://yourdomain.com/register" and "http://yourdomain.com/wp-signup.php" respectively.

https://premium.wpmudev.org/manuals/the-buddypress-manual-2/letting-people-register/#multisite

on my local test site (using MAMP) not logged in to the site, when i enter the "/wp-signup.php" it resorts to the "register" page where there is basically the entire sign up for a new site.

is this normal ?
would this also register people for all the buddypress features/components ?

i feel i am missing something and can't put all the pieces together in my head.

any kind assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

kind regards,

RC.

    Hello there RC,

Thanks for posting on the forums.

That says, that on BuddyPress installs its the register page and on a Mulisite install its the wp-signup.php.

If you try to access wp-signup.php in a BuddyPress install, it will take you to the registration page which you have defined in BuddyPress settings and that is the page which will be used for user as well as site registration. Makes sense ?

would this also register people for all the buddypress features/components ?

Yes, if a user is added to your site, he also becomes a part of your BuddyPress network

I am around in case you have any further questions or any confusions on this topic. Please feel free to ask.

    Cheers, PC

ok i now remembered the buddypress settings.
    it says ;

"Associate WordPress Pages with the following BuddyPress Registration pages"

    under the main heading "Registration"

basically this is the reason why all registration is associated ?
ie. blog (for people to add comments), to create a new site, as well as buddypress community ?

    - allow me to play devil's advocate : what if i choose a different page here ?
would that not allow buddypress sign up and site sign up at the same time ?

even though i believe i understand everything a bit better, u kind of lost me with your first couple lines :

"That says, that on BuddyPress installs its the register page and on a Mulisite install its the wp-signup.php"

could you clarify this please ?

    kind regards,

    RC.

    Hey there Randall,

    Thanks for posting back.

basically this is the reason why all registration is associated ?
ie. blog (for people to add comments), to create a new site, as well as buddypress community ?

Yeah, that is a common link for registration for everything. If a user simply joins your site, he is added as a user. But if they create a site they are created under Network users as a subsite administrator.

what if i choose a different page here ?
would that not allow buddypress sign up and site sign up at the same time ?

Any page you choose here, will serve as the registration page. BuddyPress is smart

That says, that on BuddyPress installs its the register page and on a Mulisite install its the wp-signup.php

Sorry, I should have been more clear

Lets say you have 2 multisites :

    sitea.com
    and
    siteb.com

sitea.com is a site without buddypress so the signup link would be sitea.com/wp-signup.php

siteb.com is a buddypress site where you are using buddypress regsitration page, so the registration link will automatically become siteb.com/your-register-page-link

    Makes sense ?

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

    Cheers, PC

    Hello everyone...

I have a site where the buddypress and wp multisite is activated.. In the wp multisite network UNDER SETTING... I SET IT TO LOGIN USERS CAN REGISTER NEW SITE...

UNDER THE BUDDYPRESS SETTING I DID NOT ASSOCIATE THE REGISTER PAGE TO BUDDPRESS.... I HAVE INSTALL A UNILEVEL PRO PLUGIN FROM WPBINARYMLM.COM , So,..my register page uses a shortcode provided on the said plugi...so the default registration role is MLM user... not participant as default role for buddypress.

My problem now is that when my site member will login ...and tried to visit http://site.com/wp-signup.php , it will redirect to http://site.com/register/ ..... I want my site members to create a site when they are login...but THAT'S THE PROBLEM.. IT WILL REDIRECT..
PLEASE HELP ME FIND A SOLUTION FOR THIS IF THERE IS ANY.
