Remove "powered by WordPress" in 2016 theme

How do I remove the powered by WordPress in the footer of the 2016 theme?

    Hello Mark Wall,

I hope you are well today. Thank you for your question.

By 2016 theme, I'm assuming you mean the default Twenty Sixteen theme provided in the WordPress installation package.

To modify the footer in that theme, you will need to create a child theme and make your modifications to it.

You can read about How to Create a WordPress Child Theme at the following link: https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/how-to-create-wordpress-child-theme/

Alternately, a plugin I've used extensively to make Child Themes is Child Theme Configurator. https://wordpress.org/plugins/child-theme-configurator/

In either case, you will need to copy over footer.php from Twenty Sixteen into your child theme. Then, using your prefered editor, either modify or remove the following line of code. See highlighted code in the following image:

Let me know if you have any further questions. I'll be happy to help!

    Best regards,

    James Morris
