Separate Database Server Bandwidth Question

Hi,

I have a stupid question about setting up a multisite network with a separate database server. How will that affect bandwidth consumption?

The servers are in different parts of the same data center, so a local network connection is not available. So they'll use public bandwidth. Will the interaction between them result in using much more bandwidth than I want to? For example, will it work like scenario A or B below:

SCENARIO A:

Main server makes queries to database server. Database server passes the info back to the main server, which serves it. Of course, this scenario involves passing a lot of data around (from one server to another, then to the user).

SCENARIO B:

Main server makes queries to database server. Database server serves up the info directly to the user. Of course, this scenario involves passing less data because the database server just gives the data directly to the user.

Sorry I don't know the answer to this...any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark
