Site is moving incredibly slow

Hello, I really hope someone can help me as I'm really stuck on this one...

I have a client site in particular that is running INCREDIBLY slow. http://moving-careers.com/ The site has been around for years and the guy does blog regularly and have hundreds of pages.

If you click around, you'll see his posts pull up slowly. I set up WP Rocket caching plugin which has helped 40+ of my sites improve an average of 10 points in gtmetrix.com. I also optimized the thousands of images on the site using EWWW. I am probably going to install Cloudflare and MaxCDN for his site, but I can't imagine it improving dramatically, which is what we need.

He's been on a VPS hosting account that only has one other site on it.

Can you guys look at the site and tell me why it's taking forever to load? I'd love your expertise and feedback because I'm really not sure what to do to speed up his site.

Much gratitude,
Sinoun

Hey @sinoun, hope you're doing well today!

Your question here makes me think of an article we published recently, not sure if you had a peek at that yet:

    https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/speeding-up-wordpress/

It sounds like you've been implementing (or are planning to implement) some of the changes mentioned in that article, but I do wonder... have you had a peek at the database yet?

Given what you said about your client having a lot of pages & posts, it's possible that's part of the delay here. I'd want to check out "8. Optimize Your Database" in the article I mentioned.

Doing a test via Pingdom though:

I noticed that the last item there is a Twitter related request, perhaps that Twitter widget in the footer's being a bit of a problem here as well? Something to check out (could try removing it temporarily, and seeing if that helps the speed at all).

    Kind Regards,
    Michael
