Site is very slow due to images

I have configured Smush and Smush CDN and Automatic Resize and still, the performance reports suggest to optimize and resize images.

The client is wanting to know what is going on? Images are disappearing or take forever to appear.

This site was migrated from no good GoDaddy. There have been several compression plugins added over the years…not sure if that’s part of the problem.

How do we speed the site up and make the images appear fast?

    Hi Mark,

Your theme is using images as backgrounds and Smush can only serve images via CDN when they are used in an image tag and that’s why it’s unable to serve resized images that would fit their holder.

These large images are taking up almost 4MB of your page size and that will affect the load times quite a lot so it’s definitely something that should be resolved, either by asking your theme devs to use image tags instead of background image, so that Smush can serve correct images, or by using properly sized images that will fit their holder.

You should also try further configuring Asset Optimization in Hummingbird as you have a lot of assets loaded on the page and they are currently affecting your site load times, so you should try moving more of them to footer and forcing load after page load.

    Best regards,

    Predrag

    Hi Mark,

At the moment we don’t have any information on when Smush will be able to support background images that are assigned via CSS so right now the only way to resolve those images is to either ask your dev to use IMG tags or manually set images with correct sizes to be used as background.
