site search searches the whole site, but there is no search page for any of the sub domains.

On writerpublish.com all the posts on the sub domains are indexed but when your on a subdomain there is no "site search" page created.

Creating one Manualy doesn't get populated with the search results?

I all so don't see the place to set the number of posts and colors?

Any sugestions?

Thanks
Ron

Okay, let's everyone who's installed this wonderful plug-in, global site search and not been disappointed that it only does the root site, stand up.

I'm sure that it just represents an incomplete development! However, all of those who would like to use this fantastic tool, I have come up with a workaround.

This is on a new site that's still very much in development, a multiuser with 4 subdomains I created a widget that you can put in every subsite that opens site search in the pop-up window on the main site. (Code enclosed) and change the page will pop up page. The one flaw is that my HTML skills haven't been used for 30 or 40 years and I don't know how to put the close button on the pop up window.

The pop-up is in black and white because I'm using color to differentiate between the sections. I guess I could come up with a 6th color combination that would represent search.

You can see it here http://writerpublish.com/

    The widget code <h2 style="text-align: center;">Site search</h2>

Actually, there's a 2nd flaw , since it's a text box inside the widget I can control the height of it. I'm thinking of adding a 2nd line the text that would be for comments.

Maybe someone who's more up to date in their coding skills. Care to contribute to this workaround.
    Best regards,
    Ron

Actually, I solve it using a widget that I created by simply enclosing a fully qualified URL to the 1st page search. Your I-frame has the same problem that my widget.

How to close the pop-up window when you're done with it?

I know there's a way to do it, as I used to do it all the time. It just escapes me at this moment. Take a look and see what I mean. http://writerpublish.com/site-search/?phrase=word.

If you can supply back code, I will be forever grateful.

    Thanks

    Hi again @rmahon

I think there is something else that needs to be addressed first.

You mentioned in your post above that the form opens in a popup. I'm seeing a simple redirect to a new page in the same browser window, not a popup. So clicking the browser's back button returns to the previous page.

If you really want it in a popup, here's a really simple tool to get the code you need:
    http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex8/popwin.htm

There's also a little tutorial I wrote a while back for building a popup help center for your site that you can use for inspiration:

Patrick, this is the best answer that anyone could have expected. And exactly the solution to a few problems that I've been working on. My audiences very unsophisticated when it comes to computers. But superstars when it comes to writing, grammar, and storytelling.

Now that I know the back arrow will cancel the screen, I can create a hyperlink to my exit this page string. Which, if memory serves me right was a hexadecimal 08.

Thank you very much for all your help I really appreciate the extra mile you always go to.

Patrick, I have 2 problems. One is I can't create a new support ticket. When I tried to submit the question it doesn't take the input. Then it times out and goes through are 2 explanations on how to use the system.

I went to the asked questions, filled out the form, when I push submit, but nothing happens.

More important to me at this moment, is global site search stopped working. I thought I submitted a ticket. 2 days ago, and thought it was very strange that I didn't get an answer

The index seems fine, I re-indexed and just to be sure, it did find some new posts? http://writerpublish.com/site-2/

    Hi there @rmahon

I hope you had a great weekend!

Have you recently installed the ShareThis plugin? It would appear that the hashtag it automatically appends to every URL may be mucking things up.

Global Site Search works just fine on my test install as seen here:
    http://patrickcohen.net/site-search/?phrase=jackie

Please try deactivating ShareThis, or see this page for more info:
    http://support.sharethis.com/customer/portal/articles/517332-share-widget-faqs#copynshare

As for not being able to submit support questions, what browser and operating system are you using? Are you trying to submit while logged into this site? Or are you submitting from your WPMU DEV Dashboard on your site?

Good morning, nice to hear from you.

On the issue of not being able to create a help ticket. I am logged in to my account and the link that I click on brings me to https://premium.wpmudev.org/support/

I just tried it before responding to you and it still will not allow me to enter any information on it requests "what's your problem or topics"?

    New subject:global site search

I I deactivated the plug-in. Share this. No change.
I recently installed the recent global post widget plug-in. That works fine.
    See it here:http://writerpublish.com/

I'm going to go and try uninstalling this share this plug-in make sure there's no chance of it interfering.

    Hi again @rmahon

...the link that I click on brings me to https://premium.wpmudev.org/support/

Where exactly is that link? On this site? Or did you click through from your site?

The only way you can get redirected to https://premium.wpmudev.org/support/ is if you are either logged in with a free account, or not logged in at all.

And the reason you can't enter any information there is because it is not a form, only an image of the actual form on a page that describes our support features.

Has uninstalling/deactivating things improved the situation at all?

Patrick, I am definitely logged in, https://premium.wpmudev.org/profile/private/ and the site says Howie, man

The name of the tab in the browser is private.

I see there's an update to the dashboard someone to try to conceive that makes a difference.

I can get to support if I click on the dashboard, but don't open it, then they go and that's the drop-down list. And select support.

If you don't hear from me, it's still broken.

What about my problem with global site search?

    @rmahon

I hope you had a great weekend!

Whoops, when you're logged in, the WordPress toolbar appears at the top of every page of this site.

The links to use for support are in the toolbar (screenshot).

The big ones at the top-right of the screen don't change whether logged-in or not. The Support link there simply leads to a page that describes the support options, with links to those various options.

As for the Global Site Search issue, did you perhaps inadvertently trash the Site Search page? This link leads to a "404 - not found":

Grate question! Probably did, when I was troubleshooting the original problem. So the question is how do I put it back?

As far as the support tab the one that's broken it the 2nd from the right that says support?

Not in the toolbar, but on the black screen itself. There's 4 buttons.the 3rd from the right or the 2nd from the left says support,
    Thanks

    Hi @rmahon,

Just popping in here as we have another thread open, but I think it's more relevant to respond here considered what Patrick has pointed out.

If you accidentally deleted the Site Search page, you can get it back by creating a new page on your primary site. You should give it the slug "site-search" Then when search requests are redirected, that page will load the the plugin will fill in the results.
