Site sign up form?

Hey all,

First time here! Love the product thus far.
I am in the process of integrating Supporter with WP multisite ala Edublogs style. Perhaps I may be missing the forest cause I'm too close to the trees BUT how do I configure a sign up form for my client to sign up for either a FREE or paid blog?

Most BP-friendly an MU-friendly themes have an option to "register" somewhere on the front page, for others you'll need to include a link to "/register/".

Hey Thanks for the heads-up Shawn. I did find the option in my theme to turn on the sign-up button, which I did and was able to move forward a bit more with my installation.

At this point I have created a user/site but when I try to log in to the new site created there are files missing, from what I can see at least the CSS files and who knows what else. The wp-admin page is not there, either. Any hints as to what may be going on? Do I need to make themes available to new sites and if yes, how do I do that?

Are these issues MU or WPMU DEV specific?

Will you be using BuddyPress?

If so then you can do that in the Profile Field Set-up:

/wp-admin/network/admin.php?page=bp-profile-setup

For a custom WP sign up page (if not using BuddyPress) then take a peak at the following thread:

Not sure of your exact question here but if you are missing WordPress files then you need to upload them.

Yes. Themes available are selected from Network Admin -> Themes -> Themes. (All themes selected here are available for both free and supporters)

aka

/wp-admin/network/themes.php

You can choose here which ones are available for free members. Then for Supporters, go to Network Admin -> Settings -> Supporter. On the top-ish of the page you will have "Premium Themes" click that. All themes that were not activated in "Network Admin -> Themes -> Themes" can be selected here for premium use.

Thanks for the reply.

On the first point, I did go through that post (twice) and each time I got a HTTP server error. I think that that info might be slightly outdated to the version of WP now. Besides that, both the post and the link from the post gave conflicting information. So, I am still searching for a way to format that page a little bit better. Any other resources?

On the files missing, I have followed your advice and made those themes available, the site appears to be created, I get a confirmation email, I go to the link and the page appears but with no formatting at all. If I try de login page, it does not exist. What am I doing wrong?

Are you sure all of your WP install is correctly uploaded to the server? What you describe is symptomatic of missing files. It's also possible that you have a server configuration issue, such as PHP "safe mode" which is preventing it from operating correctly.

Hey Shawn,

I uploaded all the "supporter" files according to the instructions provided. As far as the WP stuff, how can I check if it's running on "safe mode" and if so, how do I change it?

Interesting that I don't get any error messages. It just doesn't seem to install all the files needed for the site site.

"Safe mode" is a configuration option you'll find in your web-based control panel or server options (cpanel, plesk and so on). It must be "off"/disabled for proper functionality in WP.

You may also have a server security system (typically mod_security) enabled that can be disabled within htaccess. You can disable mod_security by adding the following to your .htaccess file:

</IfModule>
```

I'm running into too many variables, so I feel the best thing to do is start with a fresh install of WP MU on a "development" sub-directory or sub-domain and then once it is done, then move it into the root of the actual site.

Is that recommendable and if so how difficult is it to move the MU files from one dir/subdomain to another?

I wouldn't unless it was absolutely required for a project.

I recommended:

You will need to pay attention to your .htaccess and wp-config.php files, you will also need to make adjustments in the database.

You mentioned you are running into to many variables, it is often best to tackle one thing at a time and become familiar with one thing at a time to best understand how it works and find, then resolve any potential conflicts. :slight_smile:

Sounds great! That was my main sentiment: take it one step at a time.
1) Install WP
2) Install MU - make sure that all works, that I can sign up others, etc.
3) Install the preferred theme, make modifications, etc. Make sure everything still works properly,
4) Install Supporter plug in. Make sure everything continues to function properly, etc.
Do you concur?

Absolutely!

Its the best way because if you install to much in one go and then something is wrong, it makes it far harder to find and resolve the cause.
