Sites not being created properly with multisite and Pro sites

I have installed pro sites and multisite on my website

Neither adding a site from the frontend or the backend works.

If I add it from the frontend, it doesn't even appear in the backend under the "sites" list. And if I try to click the activation link in the email, that doesn't work either.

If I add it from the backend, it appears in the sites list but does not work in the browser.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Tom! Hope you are doing good today :slight_smile:

    I tried to create a test website on your network, signup process went smooth untill I get activation email (cool) but when I visited the link there I got error . It seems to be server error or your Multisite network is setup correct, more than just Pro Sites, its throwing DNS look up fails (see screenshot).

    Is it working with WordPress default signup ? Deactivate Pro Sites and create a new website from Network Admin > Sites > Add New. Let me know if its working or not.

    Take care and have a nice day :slight_smile:

    Cheers, Sajid

    Here is what's in my wp-config file:

    define('WP_DEBUG', false);

    define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);

    define('MULTISITE', true);
    define('SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', true);
    define('DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE', '');
    define('PATH_CURRENT_SITE', '/');
    define('SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);
    define('BLOG_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);

    And this is what's in my .htaccess file:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin
    RewriteRule ^wp-admin$ wp-admin/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule ^ - [L]
    RewriteRule ^(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $1 [L]
    RewriteRule ^(.*\.php)$ $1 [L]
    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    Ok so I found the solution to this.

    I had to create a wildcard subdomain in cpanel, and also create an A record for it.

    Neither of these things were mentioned in the WPMUdev installation video for Multisites I don't think, which is where I was following instructions from. Or did I just miss that bit?
