Slide Show gives errors in Explorer 6 & 7

hi:

just discovered that although the slide shows for our site are working fine in firefox, they do not work on our machines with IE 8 or 6. those users get this error:

Message: Invalid argument.
Line: 12
Char: 12949
Code: 0
URI: http://withage.com/easthill/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.3.2

Message: Object doesn't support this property or method
Line: 607
Char: 7
Code: 0
URI: http://withage.com/easthill/

thank you. denise

the slideshow does have content and what is happening is that the first picture is there - no transitions - and the text that should be coming up as the captions is sitting below it.

i tested on another machine last night, a windows machine with IE8, and all was fine. (one of the machines that would not work at my company was a windows machine with IE8. i'll do further testing on that today.) but the slide shows will work with IE6?

a better URL is http://withage.com/ as the East Hill blog should require a login.

    thank you. denise

    hi tammie:

so we're doing some testing here at the company and some of the machines with IE8 are getting this same message (as below but at the public site) and some are not. one machine was freshly upgraded from IE6 to IE8 and will not work. do you have any idea what this would be?

    url: http://withage.com

    thanks, tammie.

@dabarnes: Do you have javscript enabled on all of those machines? I get no errors using firebug and trust me if there was a javascript error that one would be popping it up as it's a debugger. Thank you for the link to the article but we are linking in javascript fine

Have you done any editing or style changes as not seeing the menu and there are 2 javascript areas on the site - the menus and the slideshow... I'm thinking something is up with the navigation here.

EDIT: Can you try changing the title of this category for me: Chef's Corner - not sure if the ' isn't causing issues.

    tammie:

you were absolutely correct. i got fresh files for the theme and reloaded and the slide show is working on all machines now. i do have to get rid of the page navigation bar but will get info on how to do that safely on these boards.

i took the apostrophe out of chef's corner and have not moved those category marker back up to the top yet. again, i'd like to remove the word 'slideshow' from the labels at the bottom of the column (which i will move to the top).

    thanks, tammie.

@dabarnes: no problem basically it hit me when I was reviewing that theme a while back a user had a doozey of a bug like that down to a ' that the javascript was flipping out about. Why do you want to remove the page navigation? Are you going to have another method of accessing the buddypress sections and pages?

this is going to be a project long in development, with lots of people involved, and we're rolling out a very simple version but i thought it would be a good idea to have the buddypress functions built in and ready to activate. needless to say, if you have some advice on this matter, i would love to hear it.

we are a management company with several residential communities, and will be rolling out these blogs to each of our communities, each with invitation-only, password protection, as a way for the EDs to communicate more directly with residents and family members.

by the way, the 'bug' was me changing the display properties to 'none' on one of the divs in the layout.css.

    thanks, tammie

@dabarnes: Hmmm we have a lot of people with extensive advise on large projects in this forum I'd suggest you perhaps do a new post asking / outlining what you want to do and see what feedback you get as usually members are useful for that.
