    Hello Marc,

I hope you're well today and thank you for your question!

The WP Smush Pro performs two kinds of optimization on images: compression and resizing.

Compression is quite self-explanatory I think and it does not affect dimensions of images.

Resizing however applies only to original images. Every image that is uploaded to WordPress is processed by WordPress and then an original one is stored and some additional images of specified dimensions are created. Those original images can sometimes occupy a lot of storage space and that's why WP Smush gives an option to resize them.

Those messages that you included in your post however are about something a bit different. For example: if the image for a thumbnail in Media settings is set to 300x300 pixels and the theme may be using 150x150 pixels thumbnails. Usually that is specified with CSS and such image is resized in browser. In order to address that, dimensions of all the "containers" (html elements holding images) would have to be fetched from site, additional image sizes would have to be configured in WordPress and then additional images created.

WP Smush Pro doesn't support such kind or resizing. That could make a handy feature if techically possible so I have moved this thread to our "Features & Feedback" forum and if more members of our community will vote for it our developers will consider implementing such feature in one of the future releases.

    Kind regards,
    Adam
