SSL Certificates – Should I have them on all my sites now?

Hey there,

I’ve been told that Google has started an initiative that all sites have SSL’s in an effort to push for safe web browsing. All of the sites that I run, so far, don’t have a store or any ecommerce features, so no exchange to personal information which is why we haven’t gotten the SSL’s for them. Should I have an SSL cert on all my sites now? Is that something that I need to do? I wasn’t sure and figured the experts at WPMU would know best.

Let me know what you think.

Thank You,

    Hi Mark,

    Hope you’re well?

It alldepends on the site & the information if any that is obtained from the user, such as if you have a contact formfor example, without SSL/https Any eaves droppers for example could potentially see the info you’re submitting in contact forms. which could include phone numbers, addresses, etc, more prevalent in free unsecured open-wifi locations.

This article might help you decide.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Vaughan,

Thanks for the info and the link to that article.

That will help. I was initially wondering if Google is prioritizing these now and I don’t want to fall in the search rankings for not having one. Looks like I should probably get one for the sites that I don’t.

    Thank you for your insight.
