Subdirectory Multisite Missing Formatting

Hi, I’ve created a Sub-Directory multisite and the child site is missing formatting:

http://vaneeesa.com/journal/

Also, when you try to login to that site, it says it’s an address loop:

http://vaneeesa.com/journal/wp-login.php

Thanks for any help!

    Hi Ian, TY!

The Twenty Eleven theme is “network enabled” and it does show correctly on the parent site:

    http://vaneeesa.com/

I think my .htaccess is correct.

I don’t actually know what it all means, but here’s my .htaccess:

    —-

    # BEGIN WordPress

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

    RewriteEngine On

    RewriteBase /

    RewriteRule ^index.php$ – [L]

    # uploaded files

    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d

    RewriteRule ^ – [L]

    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    Hello @xuefaith

Greetings and thanks for writing back.

Looks like some strange issue as it never occurred before. Can you please send me your admin credentials and FTP access via our secure contact form and mark the email to my attention with a link to this thread so that I can have a closer look ?

    Please advise.

    Cheers, PC

    Hi Ian,

I really appreciate your trying to help, but in my short time as a “pretend webmaster” I’ve already learned the hard way that you NEVER give out your Admin / SFTP access. Well-meaning techs at both ThemeFuse and TemplateMoster both massively messed up our database and we lost a lot of work. (it was all backed up, but somehow they managed to do various damage we couldn’t revert past) Actually that’s in fact the reason I’m trying to set this up now, as part of recovering from those disasters.

I unfortunately don’t have the skills to fix this, but I just can’t let our site be compromised again. Thank you for trying and if there’s any other way I can work on this I’d love to know.

I should mention that we actually have a SubDirectory setup on WP Engine that does work now (well, minus those issues) but that had the exact same “no format” problem when we first set it up and which a WP Engine tech fixed by unknown means.

Unfortunately IDK what he did so I can’t replicate the fix, and more unfortunately they’ve informed us that they want a staggering amount of money to continue hosting the site there, hence my effort to get something running on BlueHost or MediaTemple or some other more affordable host.

    Thank You!!

    Xue

    Hey Xue,

No issues if you do not want to share the details  I totally agree with your point of view

Well to be honest, I had this issue once and that was only with them and no where else.

Where have you hosted the current site ? Is it still on WP Engine ? or some other host ?

    Cheers, PC

    Hey PC, thanks for understanding.

The — soon to be — “old” site was on WP Engine:

    http:irez.me

The one that now has the “no format” issue is on BlueHost.

    http://vaneeesa.com/journal/

I’m really excited about multisite, but so far it’s been all problems and frustrations. I’ve tried a few subdomain installs and I’m still working through domain issues there.

The 2 above are the only 2 subdirectory ones I’ve tried and they’ve both done this “no formatting” thing.

The WPE techs fixed that one, and now I’m trying to sort out the BlueHost one as their techs don’t support WordPress.

By the way, IDK if it matters, but since these weren’t new domains and I wanted to use subdirectories, I did the

    define(‘SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL’, false);

“trick” to get multisite to let me use subdirectories. (yes, I know I’m “liable” for any name collisions)

Anyway, if there’s a file I can update or a switch to ask the BlueHost techs to flip to get the formatting, that’d be great.

    TY!!

That change only applies to the new sites you will be creating and not the old ones.

The formatting seems fine to me now. Have you made any change ?

Yes! I have just made a change.

Turns out it was an easy / dumb thing. Since I was altering / faking the wp-config file, the WP network setup was giving me the (now) wrong .htaccess file. I dug up the right one for subdirectories someplace (like the codex maybe) and suddenly life is so much better! Ha! I should go eat a nice dinner!

(if only the daunting site import stuff wasn’t still haunting me! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for your help with this!
