Superadmin Single Sign On for all subsites

Good afternoon,

I hope you are all doing fine.

I have a question regarding SSO when logged in as a super-admin: I need the wp-admin-bar which requires that I’m logged in, otherwise I don’t see it. So, I log in on my Multisite with the super-admin credentials, which works fine. But as soon as I try to have a look at a (sub-)site, I’m logged out and don’t see wp-admin-bar anymore. Another weird issue is that I can not log in on (sub-)sites using my super-admin credentials (password is correct).

I’ve looked through the settings, searched the forums but that didn’t help. Can someone help me out please?

Thank you very much,

Have a nice day.

    Hello Michael,

I hope you are well today.

The way SSO works on Multisite is the Administrator of the subsite has the same email address as another site’s Administrator account, then that Administrator will have automatic SSO on both subsites. This also holds true for the SuperAdmin. If your subsites were setup with an Administrator account that does not share the same email address as your SuperAdmin, then you will be prompted for a user/pass combo to access that site’s Dashboard.

However, there are a number of plugins available that give you the option to have full SSO support. Our very own Domain Mapping is one such plugin. If you go to Network Admin -> Settings -> Domain Mapping -> Cross-domain autologin and set the value to Yes, the SuperAdmin will be able to login to all dashboards.

    Other options include:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/

I hope this clarifies a bit. Let us know if you have any further questions. We’ll be happy to help!

    Best regards,

    James Morris
