there, Can Multisite let me install WP but then have

Hi there,

Can Multisite let me install WP but then have domains hosted in multiple hosting spaces or do they have to all be hosted in the same space?

Does Multisite basically let me roll out changes to all sites defined within it, regardless of there each site is located?

I just don't have any understanding of Multisite and no idea where to start. I would like to set up 40 sites which will all be related and have similar functions, but unique content.

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael! Hope you are doing good today and thanks for your question

They all hosted on same server, by default you can only configure MS (Multisite) using sub-domains (staging.domain.ocm) or sub-directory (domain.com/staging) but using out domain mapping plugin to use domains instead.

In multisites you can access all your subsites under one dashboard. But you have to edit/make changes to each of website individually just like single WordPress installs. However we have some cool plugins that can be used to share same content and other awesome features. You can dig into it later

Here are great resources and tutorials on our blog related to WordPress multisite covering, basics, benefits and importance of it.

Hi Mike! Hope you are doing good today and welcome back

Yes there are some pros & cons of Multisites. Yes its true all of your websites are managed under one database and under one hosting. It depends if your website. If your main websites goes down or got hacked then all of websites will be down. I admit that WordPress Multisites is not always a good option for every one and for every business.

In fact its about security, in this sense all of WordPress individual websites have risk to got hacked and if they are on same server like if you are on business hosting plan with unlimited domains and hosting, then chances are all of your websites go down and can get hacked. WPMUDEV is successfully running http://edublogs.org/ with 3,193,744 blogs since 2005.

As an alternative to multistie is ManageWP. They let you manage all your single WordPress websites under one dashboard.

And also InfiniteWP, they are free to start and then charge for add-ons.

Take care and have a great weekend
