This is with reference to this thread, we have isolated the problem.

https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/domain-mapping-redirect-loop-when-using-the-mapped-domain

here is the set up

Wild Card SSL certificate applied to a wordpress multisite in subdomain format.

SSL works fine front and backend for all subsites if they dont have a domain mapped.

SSL https connection works fine on wp-admin and front end loads without HTTPS as long as the user visits the site via the following links.

http://mappeddomain/wp-login.php or https://subsite.yourdomain.com/wp-login.php

However for example if they went to say http://mappeddomain.com/wp-admin or https://subsite.yourdomain.com/wp-admin and you are not logged in and then bounced to /wp-login.php as usual then no matter what option you choose in domain mapping settings either mapped or original domain or entered by user the redirect is always wrong. This only seems to happen when using https and mapped domains, it doesnt appear if you are not using ssl and https. I tried forcing https off (in the original domain settings) but still no joy.

Any ideas on a fix to this or at least a workaround if anyone bookmarks wp-admin then they will have this issue if they are not logged in.

cheers
