Try Everything but Website is still slow

Hi,

I really love the plugin by WPMU, it seems easy to use.
My main concern is the speed of loading of my website.
I tried to measure my website using Google Page Speed and its performing really bad.
I had installed the Hummingbird and Smush Pro to fix it.
I had smush all of my images with the 10x reduction. However, my score in Humming bird for the optimize image is still at 15 (red)
Also the score in Google Page Speed is still really bad.
In addition, my score in Hummingbird is already have so many 100, but not at Page Speed. Could you please advice me on what to do?

Cheers
Indra

    Hey Indra Pangestu

    Hope you are well today and thanks for asking us. :slight_smile:

    Google Page speed reports takes many things in account. Our Hummingbird provides different mechanism though which you can boost up speed of your page. Different aspects Hummingbird targets are,

    #1) GZIP Compression,
    #2) Minification settings,
    #3) Browser Caching

    these factors are most valuable when it comes to page speed. I am not sure that you are using all of them or just few of them. so Do you mind me taking look at your site's setup ?

    If that's okay to you then please do grant me staff access to your site via WPMU DEV > Support > Support Access > Grant Access

    Look forward to hearing back. :slight_smile:
    Kind Regards,
    Milan

    Hey there Indra Pangestu,

    I hope you're doing pretty well! :slight_smile:

    I just inspected your site, let me show you my findings/thoughts so far:

    First of all, WP Smush. You had nearly half of your images not smushed. So I pushed the 'Bulk Smush' button to get these images as small as possible. Then I noticed that the progress bar has still for some time so I saw the following errors in dev tools.

    Despite that, I refreshed the page and most of the images were smushed indeed, apart from 41 images. Now the process remains the same but I can't get those 41 images to be smushed. So, I need you to enable debug mode to get some more info eventually. Open up wp-config.php file, find below code:
    define('WP_DEBUG', false );
    ...and replace it with following code.

    // Enable WP_DEBUG mode
    define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );
    // Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );
    // Disable display of errors and warnings
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );
    @ini_set( 'display_errors', 0 );

    Now, run the smush again and attach wp-content/debug.log file here (don't forget to mask any security details and rename the file to .txt in order to upload it).

    Now, about speed. This is more of a complicated issue with lots of topics.
    As Milan, my collegue, also mentioned, different speed-test services have different specifications. So you should first select which of these you want to follow. Hummingbirde, Google Page Speed, all provide insights on what can be made to make things faster, every one in it's own way of measuring things.
    As far as it goes for Humminbird, I can see that you get almost the most out of it, apart from the formentioned issue with images.
    My main concern seeing your installation, is the large number of plugins. You can use P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) in order to see the impact of these in your site and maybe try to replace or merge by code some of them. Considering your theme, I haven't used it, so I can't really tell how well it responds.
    Having said all that and when all of the above are up & running, you should check for advanced caching techniques, which is more likely in conjuction with the actual server infrastructure. I wonder, are you using a shared hosting for this installation?

    Looking forward for your response,
    Dimitris

    Hi Indra Pangestu,

    I hope you're doing really well today! :slight_smile:

    I am using dedicated VPS not shared hosting. Could you also tell me more about the advance caching technique?

    The two most famous/trendy that I can think of right now are https://memcached.org/ and https://varnish-cache.org/. Please do notice that enabling and making the best out of these requires an advanced sys admin guy.

    I tried to use the P3 plugin, but it does not tell me which plugin is slowing my website down.

    You can see some detailed screenshots in plugins page -> https://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/screenshots/
    Did you perform any scan? There's a "Start Scan" button under Tools -> P3 Plugin Profiler.

    Also attached here is the report from the wp-content/debug.log file

    I cannot see anything related to WP-Smush in there. Did you try to do a Bulk Smush after enabling debug and before saving and sending me that file?

    Please advise! :slight_smile:

    Have a good one,
    Dimitris

    Hello Indra Pangestu,

    I had a look on your site and Pagespeed score.

    Can you please fix following issues:

    The slider image included in here is 1600x1068 px, where the required one is 1280x500 Px only, you'd need to edit this image to either exact dimension or nearby dimension, that'd save a lot of time in page load.

    Similarly for the smaller slider just below the bigger one.

    You need to use a smaller image in there. If the image isn't being used anywhere else, you can directly scale it down, else register a separate image size for the required dimension and regenerate thumbnails for the image using a plugin.

    Third image which needs to be scaled down is in your ad widget in right sidear.

    You need a 300x300 px wide image in their instead of 1028x1028px.

    Ref:
    Adding image size: https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/add_image_size/
    Regenerate Thumbnails: https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

    In last, for the issue with Smushing in rest of the images, there seems to be a issue with hosting. After sending a Smush request, your server time outs and gives a 500 internal server error, you can contact your hosting about that, they may give you some leads about the issue.

    Hope that helps you get a better Pagespeed score.

    Cheers
