Upfront interface breaks after adding second image

I have installed UPFRONT along with Upfront Builder and the child themes of ISSUE and SPIRIT. I have read the documentation and combed through the support forums and cannot find a reference to this issue. When editing a draggable text block and adding an image and updating and saving, all works as planned. When I go into UPFRONT and attempt to edit this, and remove the image and replace the image, the new image when published has the editorial X on the upper right corner and the caption changes the cursor to the text prompt. After that, if I choose UPFRONT, the entire upfront interface fails. This makes any updates impossible.

I have tried deactivating all plugins, clearing the UPFRONT cache, resetting the theme and use different browsers and can reproduce this over and over.

I have granted support access via the WPMUDEV dashboard.

    Hello Haverford , I trust you are doing well today!

    It looks like it is an issue with a theme that is created with Upfront builder. I've installed it on my installation and can re[licate the same.

    Have you added any code, inside this theme with code element?

    Would you please add the following code to your wp-config.php file and try again?

    define('UPFRONT_DEBUG_LEVELS', 'dependencies');

    Please advise,

    Cheers,
    Nastia

    Hi Nastia,

    I did not add any code to this theme with a code element. I also added the the UPFRONT debug call to wp-config. I tried a hard cache clear and cleared the UPFRONT cache via the DEBUG OPTIONS in the UPFRONT admin dashboard.

    The problem still maintains and is exactly the same.

    Hello Haverford,
    Hope you are doing good today :slight_smile:

    Thanks for granting support staff access. I can see that the Upfront Sidebar (control panel) does not appear on your site when I launched Upfront.

    Before I dig any further into this matter, I noticed that you are using an older version of Upfront and Upfront Builder. Could you please update both and then check again ?

    To update Upfront go to WPMU DEV -> Themes and click on Update Upfront button next to Awesome news for Upfront announcement.

    To update the Upfront Builder plugin go to WPMU DEV -> Plugins.

    Best Regards,
    Sajid

    Hello Haverford,
    Hope you are doing good today :slight_smile:

    I could replicate this issue on your site by creating a new theme and following the same steps. However, I also could not replicate it on my own test environment.

    To further troubleshoot this issue, could you please tell me that its started happening when you first created the theme or it worked first and then it stopped working.

    If it was working, then did you added any code in wp-config.php file or installed/updated any plugin/theme ? Any other information that you think may be related to this issue ?

    Also, please send in FTP and WordPress admin login details (if you keep support staff access open then don't send admin logins) so I could further troubleshoot this issue.

    You can send the requested details via our secure contact form in following format.

    Subject: "Attn: Sajid Javed”
    - WordPress admin username
    - WordPress admin password
    - login url
    - FTP credentials (host/username/password)
    - link back to this thread for reference

    Make sure you select "I have a different question" from dropdown as seen in attached screenshot so it get assigned to me and sent privately (otherwise it will posted in public form - so its important):

    Take care and have a nice day :slight_smile:

    Best Regards,

    I used the SPIRIT child upfront theme as a starting point and built several pages based on the client needs. All of them have been deleted at this time due to the UPFRONT issues. I had no problem on the initial build, but never added a second image to a page when I was doing that. It was discovered while I was giving a demo to the client. He asked about adding an image to a text block, which I demonstrated and then the render issue happened. I spent days trying to isolate it and created my own theme to test against in case there was a bug in the SPIRIT theme. This was not the case.

    There are no plugins active on the site currently except UPFRONT BUILDER and WPMU DEV DASHBOARD. Others that are installed and not activated:

    I will leave the Support token active so that you can access the site. I cannot pass on the FTP details as the server requires VPN to access.

    Hello Haverford,
    Hope you are doing good today :slight_smile:

    Thanks for more information but unfortunately we need FTP details to further debug this issue.

    Madsi Nordbustad, it would be great if you create your own thread for this issue.

    Don't forget to post this thread link in your own ticket so our staff know the background.

    Thanks for following up Madsi. Unfortunately, never installed any caching plugins. Never got far enough into the process to begin fine tuning for performance. I still have the issue. It also looks like we both used the SPIRIT child theme at one point for what its worth.

    Hello Haverford , I hope all is well with you!

    I just visited your site again and got "{"error":"You can't do this."}" error, which looks like an issue related to ajax.

    Can you try adding this rule to your .htaccess and see if the Upfront is working properly after that:

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    SecFilterRemove 00318
    </IfModule>

    If this will not solve it, please enable debug log by adding this to your wp-debug.php file:
    define('WP_DEBUG', true);

    Make sure that you insert this line BEFORE /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ in the wp-config.php file.

    Try to replicate the issue, edit a theme in Upfront builder again. Let us know the errors you'll see.

    Kind regards,
    Nastia

    Hello Haverford

    I am afraid the log from the console it is not the same with WordPress debug log.

    Would you please enable debug log in your wp-config.php by replacing define('WP_DEBUG', false); with this code:

    // Enable WP_DEBUG mode
    define('WP_DEBUG', true);

    // Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
    define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true);

    // Disable display of errors and warnings
    define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);

    Replicate the issue, this will create debug.log file in your wp-content folder that could tell us what is going on.

    If you need assistance, I can do this for you and test the issue on your site. Only to do this, I will need your credentials.

    You can send that privately through our contact form: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/

    Select “*I have a different question*?" for your topic - this and the subject line ensure that it gets assigned to me.

    Send in:

    Subject: "Attn: Nastia"
    - WordPress admin username
    - WordPress admin password
    - login url
    - FTP credentials (host/username/password)
    - link back to this thread for reference https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/upfront-interface-breaks-after-adding-second-image
    - any other relevant urls

    I am waiting for your email.

    Hello Haverford , I hope you are doing well and happy New Year!

    Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay. I had a feedback from developers and they confirmed that this is a bug and it is very hard to reproduce.

    A developer came up with a workaround:

    - Please create a blank new page on your site and open it with Upfront editor on this page
    - Click on Upfront logo on the top left corner of the sidebar

    This will take you to a home page. From there try to add to add and edit elements!

    Let me know how it went!

    Kind regards,
    Nastia

    Hello there Haverford

    To edit a different page, please follow up almost the same workaround, if the Upfront sidebar is not showing up right away,

    - Create a new page, click on Upfront to open it in Edit mode
    - On the sidebar click on the " Posts / Pages" like it is shown on the screenshot:

    - Locate the page from you need to edit from the Page / Posts list, hover over a page to click on "Edit" button

    It will open a previously non-editable page with the Upfront's sidebar again.

    Hope this will help!

    Kind regards,
    Nastia
