    Hello Prinz,

I hope you're well today and thanks for your question!

That's a lot of issues at once, so could we please go through one-by-one?

    - First Name and Last Name fields are missing

There's a filed named "BotBO Member Name (required) and it's visible on registration field. In fact, this is the field described as "please enter your FIRST Name + Last Name" according to your setup (see screenshot). Do you mean that you wish to show two additional, separate fields for First Name and Last Name there?

also when a new visitor comes to our site, they first land on the sign up
    page instead...

I can confirm this. I've checked your sites back-end and also I've worked online with one of our developers in order to identify the issue. We've found out that there are actually 2 consecutive redirections:

    - first one is performed most likely by some kind of script or redirection rule, not related to settings of any plugin

    - second one is casued by "bp_core_wpsignup_redirect" which means it's related to BuddyPress and is most likely related to some kind of custom code.

That being said, I'd like to ask you to perform two checks and let me know of the results:

    1) clear WP Super Cache cache and disable WP Super Cache plugin (and check if there's still redirection)
    2) disable BuddyPress for a moment and see if there's still redirection

This should help us identify issue here. If you wish me to do this checks, let me know please if there are other currently unresolved threads of yours that I wasn't/am not involved with (so I could consult with my colleagues on what everyone is working at the moment) and how far am I allowed to go with tests and modifications.

    Please advise!

    Cheers,
    Adam

    Hello Adam,

first of all, BIG MASSIVE thanks that you are going to help out. And of course you should know, you and your colleagues have all our trust and can do any tests and changes which are needed...

    BUT for now
please postpone any check, test or update on our site until Monday morning, 21 October 2015. The reason is, we could gain a VPS specialist from bluehost to do important maintenance on our server first (e.g. also changing WP3 cache to memchache) and other...

As soon as this is done I'll let you know.
Meanwhile wish you a pleasant weekend.
    Cheers
    Prinz

    Hello Adam,

our VPS server maintenance by a professional is done. We cleared cache as well (but please note, the vps cache is now setup to memcache... I don't know how important that is to consider).

Well, it's time to get our registration entirely working... which would brighten our days. Therefore we ask you kindly, dear Adam, pickup our request and support us.

    - regards: There's a filed named "BotBO Member Name (required)... Any entries made here can be different to Mandatory entries of USER Profile. Therefore we need to have both fields FIRST and LAST Name (part standard user registration).

    - regards: We've found out that there are actually 2 consecutive redirections: ... still exists.

    - regards: . If you wish me to do this checks, let me know please if there are other currently unresolved threads of yours that I wasn't/am not involved with (so I could consult with my colleagues on what everyone is working at the moment) and how far am I allowed to go with tests and modifications.

YES please, you have our trust to do all needed tests and modifications!

If you need any vps direct access please let us know. Currently is support access granted.

    Kind regards,
    Prinz

    Hello Prinz,

    I hope you're well today!

I'm sorry I didn't replay to you thread 2 days ago. I still had some ongoing health issues and it seems that although my colleagues were trying to help me with threads assigned to me, they were not able to solve them all. Which I understand of course, because they've got a lot of their own work.

That said, I'm sorry I didn't get back to your earlier. Fortunately, it's all all right now.

    - regards: There's a filed named "BotBO Member Name (required)... Any entries made here can be different to Mandatory entries of USER Profile. Therefore we need to have both fields FIRST and LAST Name (part standard user registration).

WordPress itself doesn't require First and/or Last Name as a part of registration process, however BuddyPress does. I've then added these two fields as "required" with validation: minimum 1 character has to be filled and all characters must be letters (so no e.g. numbers as names usually don't include numbers). I've also set these fields to be displayed on admin's user list so hopefully this will work fine for you.

    - regards: We've found out that there are actually 2 consecutive redirections: ... still exists.

I've confirmed that the second redirect is caused by BuddyPress. I've deactivated BuddyPress and then confirmed that there's another redirect to a standard WP signup page.
I have however found another related issue here:

    - user is redirected to register page only when accessing the site via the domain name without "www" prefix

    - with "www" prefix the main site (front-page) is being loaded properly

That said, I've run a lot of tests, checked the files on the server and also settings inside your hosting panel but could not find anything related to this. According to my colleagues tips it may be caused by "VHOST" settings on a server but this is something I'm not able to access or check for myself.

Would you then please ask your VPS provider if they could could check if there's a redirect set on a server level that would work like this:

    - http://www.yourdomain.com - loads the page
    - yourdomain.com -> http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-signup.php (so "yourdomain.com" without "www" redirects to "www.yourdomain.com/wp-signup.php")

Let me know please what they say!

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Hello Adam,

sorry to hear you haven't be well.

Please let me express something upfront. We know best there are times which request more important attention than just a support request... and we do understand best, that luckily one pays attention to such moment first.

However, then... when it's time to return to a task, then apologize would not be necessary at all simply if 'WPMU Dev would have a courtesy system in place' which runs automatically to let someone know 'how long approx. the queue is' or when you great guys simply estimate when the issue could could be dealt with.

Hearing absolutely nothing... it feels sooooooooo awkward... I guess, dear Adam, you do have an understanding for "us in such a situation too" when we remind unsolved matters.

Now, first of all: We appreciate so much that you did already extensive testings and fixing some of our issue.

As requested, I contacted straight away Bluehost... please follow the chat below and what they suggest to do in order to get this redirect hazzle solved:

hat ID: 5332459. Question: Provider: Bluehost - My Domain is: "bestofthebestonly.com" Our expert found the following issue: - user is redirected to register page only when accessing the site via the domain name without "www" prefix - with "www" prefix the main site (front-page) is being loaded properly. That said, he run a lot of tests, checked the files on the server and also settings inside your hosting panel but could not find anything related to this.

According to various colleagues tips it may be caused by "VHOST" settings on a server but this is something he is not able to access or check. Now, please can you check and letting us know does Bluehost have on our VPS a redirect set on a server level that would work like this:

    - http://www.yourdomain.com - loads the page
    - yourdomain.com -> http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-signup.php (so "yourdomain.com" without "www" redirects to "www.yourdomain.com/wp-signup.php")

Hello and thank you for waiting, how are you doing? My name is Chad with Premium Support.
Would you mind validating ownership of the account with the last 4 characters of your cpanel password?

    5:45:18pmPrinz
Hello Chad, how are you? To verify CC xxxxx last pw digits xxxx

    5:46:00pmChad
So redirects like that you would have to set up from the .htaccess

    5:46:37pmPrinz
would that solve our issue... anything else we should do?

    5:47:13pmChad
    That would work

    5:47:52pmPrinz
great to hear. BIG THANKS for this help.

    5:48:02pmPrinz
    Bye for now

Dear Adam, I hope that helps. Looking forward hearing from you again.
Huge, massive thank you to you helping us out.

    Hello Prinz,

I'll just jump in here (from this thread https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/adam-frankly-it-feels-not-right-not-to-hear-at-all).
Support guy said the redirect this type would be in the htaccess - but with support access I can't check the htaccess file :slight_frown:
Do we have updated credentials to your server? If yes, please tell me what support person should have them and I will look. If no, could you paste here contents of your .htaccess file?

    Kind regards,
    Kasia

  • Klaus

    Hello Kasia,

thanks for continue with this issue. For the needed credential please ask Subject: "Attn: Luis Lopes"... judy forwarded to him two days ago.

Please allow to remind you, that any user registration is not stored at USER db apart from the fact, that a chosen membership plan does not update the user role as well.

In advance please take our sincere gratitude for solving this problem finally.
    Regards,
    Prinz

    Hello Prinz,

Thank you for credentials, I found them and check htaccess. And there is no redirect of any kind there :slight_frown:
I will search for it more, maybe it is in some plugin.
I wanted to test registration for members but the I was blocked by Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin (I always used dummy data for forms) which should display captcha, but captcha is broken and I can't pass it.
Can I turn it off for testing time?

    Kind regards,
    Kasia

  • Adam Czajczyk

    Hello @Prinz!

I know this has taken some time but please take into the account that this redirection is quite an unusual issue. It took me much time to test everything and find possible solutions.

It turns out that there was a "glitch" in site's setup that's very easy to overlook and, actually, very little known. The issue here is that in case of Multisite WordPress sub-domain issue there shouldn't be a "www" prefix added to the domain name anywhere in the configuration. Because the site was working with this settings somehow, the whole install became broken so I've added also this line:

    define( 'NOBLOGREDIRECT', 'http://bestofthebestonly.com' );

It takes care of the proper handling of non-existent blog redirection.

I've updated your wp-config.php file and settings inside the database and it seems that the redirection is gone now and everything's working fine here with a significant help of my colleague @Ashok.

    I hope that helps!

    Kind regards,
    Adam

PS. You may need to clear your browser's cache totally before testing the site:

  • Kasia Swiderska

    Hello Prinz,

I was finally able to test registration on your site and without the Stop Spammers this went fine, also I was able to join membership. You can see user wpmudev in all members list.

in USER member should not be a Subscriber anymore... right!?

No. I see that you have enabled the Member Capabilities add-on enabled and I know that from the description it looks like the user will have new role, but in fact the role will not change, but capabilities from new role will be added to the member. So member will still show as "subscriber" but will have (for example) ability to create posts (and this capability comes from editor role).

    Kind regards,
    Kasia

  • Klaus

    Hello Kasia,

that's great news on one hand and on the other hand, I'm so sorry but Signup / User registration is still not right.

First: Now everyone is obviously subscribing automatically with DAY PASS Option... and unfortunately they even do not see before hand all those membership level available to choose from. Also, there is no simple registration (GUEST registration only) available to.

Second: Please check USER PROFILE again... unfortunately, FIST and LAST Name is not stored at wp USER database at all which cause problems for BuddyPress registration... and other features using those 'standard User Profile' database. Also, at this level there is any registration just marked as Subscriber too... but, what if a user wish to subscribe as Author? What, if a Non-Member forgets it's username... no chance to help out as fist and last name is not stored, right.

Well if this trouble would be solved by deselecting m2PRO ADD-ON Member Capabilites that would not be a hassle at all for us to deactivate it.... which we did meanwhile as we don't need it. However, deactivation of this feature did not solve above described problems.

Please, dear Kasia, check this issues out once more and help to solve this trouble. Screenshot are attached.

With BIG thanks to you for all your kindness and support.
    Regards,
    Prinz

Hello Adam - hello Ash - hello Kasia, that's really wonderful what you could figure out which brings this issue much closer to the right solution.

We better close this long thread and file a new one with 'the little failure left' to make things better laid out as most parts of this thread are solved by now also we are not sure who to address...

However, we really wish to express our thank you for all efforts you brought in to this terrifying horrible matter.

    Cheers
    Prinz
