Using Menu Div to Welcome Members After Login

Hi --

How would I recreate the area below the menu in the screenshot below?

I like the idea of showing members they've successfully logged in, but don't know where to start.

I have a menu available in the same area, but don't understand if / how that could be used.

    Hi @Christopher Rice,

    You would need to edit your theme header.php

    You can add a <div> where you want it to appear and use a condition to display it to only logged in users.

        if(is_user_logged_in()) {
            $current_user = wp_get_current_user();
            echo '<div class="welcome_bar">';
            echo '<div class="welcome_bar_left">Hi ' . $current_user->display_name . '</div>';
            echo '<div class="welcome_bar_right">You have logged in as a ' . get_bloginfo("description") . ' member</div>';
            echo '</div>';

    The above should give you a hi <user> and the section on the right would be the blog description part.

    you can style it using CSS

    .welcome_bar {
        width: 100%;
    .welcome_bar_left {
        float: left;
        width: 30%;
    .welcome_bar_right {
        float: left;
        width: 70%;

    Hope this helps
