using www. with multi domain plugin and domain mapping

when going to http://www.hamradiostop.com the result is being redirected to http://bloginsphere.com/wp-signup.php?new=www.hamradiostop.com
when going to hamradiostop.com it redirects to the main site properly bloginsphere.com

Original domain is http://bloginsphere.com/
I have domain mapping latest and multi domains latest installed
add on multi domain is hamradiostop.com

Not sure if this will fix it but the second domain is pointing to my main dedicated IP with an A record
Should I have parked the second domain (hamradiostop)in cpanel?

    • HummingBird

yes I did go through it but it doesn't mention in the usage about parking the domain after setting the A record

I do not have any domains mapped to the sub blogs(sites) yet I'm speaking about the Multi domain plugin part of it
    main domain is bloginsphere.com
    second main domain is hamradiostop.com

    @HamRadioDude,

I'm not sure what @vaughan, is thinking about specifically here wrt sunrise.php, but I know the one from Domain Mapping is going to strip domains of their www, so it's best to have your www as a cName to the naked domain. From the screenshot you provided, you might want to try that and see how that goes for you.

  • HamRadioDude
    • HummingBird

I have followed the instructions on both plugin and replace the domain mapping sunrise with the multi domains dm_sunrise and renamed it
    I double checked the install
@Vaughan I'm using multi domain and domain mapping my problem is with multi domain
Can you please have the developer look into this for me.

@Paul Barthmaier Thanks for the tip I tried cname and it didn't work.
Not sure it needs it as the instructions do not say it.
My setup is correct the multi domain plugin just is not working for me.

Definitely Parking the second domain is a good idea, but the issue that you wrote about in the first line was http://www.ham.com being treated differently than ham.com. Giving www the cName is the way you tell the world that they are really the same site. And I mean, really, the same site, not just two sites with identical content, because the naked domain is the canonical name, ie cName, for the www. By adding this, you are saying don't even bother looking for its data in the database, just go over and check out the real site. By doing that, your multisite won't want to create a new site for http://www.ham.com because it knows that it already has one.

  • HamRadioDude
    • HummingBird

I understand what you are saying and its not working thats the problem
I type in http://www.hamradiostop.com and I get the signup page for bloginsphere.com
maybe i did it wrong if you can look at the cname for WWW

    On another note:
    Now to make things clearer.
    the main site is bloginsphere.com
I have multi domains plugin should when I type in hamradiostop.com shouldn't hamradiostop.com be in the address bar in the browser?
because its not it loads bloginsphere

Yes, it should be, sort of.

There are lots of things going on here and I'm thinking part of the problem might be that you moved the signup page and you have buddypress. If that's true, you'll probably have to undo that.

But the issue you need to be aware of with MultiDomain is that the original site can be expressed as a naked domain, ie without www, with no special machinations. However, those domains that you have under MultiDomain won't have that luxury. Basically you'll need to create a subsite and then domain map to the naked domain to pull that off.

  • HamRadioDude
    • HummingBird

No Buddypress I have Antisplog (move signup)

I'm ok with no WWW that is not the issue

Basically you'll need to create a subsite and then domain map to the naked domain to pull that off.

Not sure it was intended that way

I still did not get a clarification from the Developers whether the multi domains are supposed to redirect the www domain to the non www domain like the main site does and load the url of the add on domain

Well, I guess you could say the answer to this is 'no,' but that doesn't take away from anything I've said to date. MultiDomains doesn't really ever have to answer that question, because it's taken care of by Domain Mapping. That is, it works this way because of the Domain Mapping, not MultiDomain, necessarily. As I said, MultiDomain probably works the same way because of sunrise.php, but I think I'm getting a feeling that, although you've added your ham domain as another domain with MultiDomain plugin, you haven't actually created a subsite on bloginsphere for it.

  • HamRadioDude
    • HummingBird

I have Not created a sub site for it.

The main problem besides the WWW issue is the Signup page loading when you put in the second domain Multi domains plugin is supposed to handle.

The ham domain was supposed to be for the Ham Radio Operators to have a domain of their own.
I am also having a Problem with Anti Splog not allowing the both domains to be shown at registration.

@Paul thanks again for all the suggestions and incite (I think I spelled that correct?)

@Vaughan How that developer coming along

    Hi there @HamRadioDude

I hope you are well today and sorry about the extreme delay on this, we was just going through some old threads and noticed this one hasn't yet been resolved.

I have read through the thread and taken a look at your site, it looks like hamradiostop.com is working correctly now? Do you still have the issue? I'm here to help

Thank you and again sorry about the extremely long delay.

    Kind Regards
    Jack.

    Hi Jack,
    I'm having the same issue.

Using Domain mapping... domain works without the WWW, but does not work with the WWW (nothing loads, just a page does not exist browser message).

    A name setup as instructed.

Hesitenet to simply do an add-on/parked domain as the idea is that users do this themselves, without my help.

Any ideas why the www is not working?

    Miro
