want to migrate some sites through my multisite

heya. So ... I have decided to make a secondary site within my multisite the primary.

specifically, i want http://www.mythica.intothemythica.com to replace the primary http://www.intothemythica.com.

I would like to move the * current * prime site to a secondary site and replace it with the * current * secondary. I've had some timeout issues trying to clone it as a site though. Assist?

Any things I should be concerned about? What's the process of doing this?

    Hey there Griffin,

hope you're doing good and thanks for reaching us!

You should be able to use the WP export/import tool for that.
You should first export the content from the main site.
Then delete the content (all posts, pages, CPTS, etc.), delete all users, etc. Make it as “empty” as you need and also install and setup any other plugins/themes that you're using in subsite.
Then export the content from subsite that should become the main site, and import into the main site.
For theme and plugin settings, you should also use any import/export functionality that may provide.
The same workaround should be made for the opposite effect. Delete all content from subsite and import all content that you've exported from main site.

Here you can find a nice article from our blog that covers this kind of migration more extended:

Hope that was some help, feel free to post back here if more assistance is required!

    Warm regards,
    Dimitris

PS. About the Cloner timeout issue, could you please create a new thread about it? We tend to keep threads specific to one issue at a time. https://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/#question

I'm not sure about that solution. First off, I just tried it and Cloner worked in copying the site. I don't feel the wordpress export works as a solution as it only created a 9 MB or so file which did not have the setup on the site that I wanted. I want a perfect COPY of the site done, so I consider this the same thread, really.

So ... let's consider. The content from the main site (as it currently is; intothemythica.com) is copied onto a sub-site (journeyhome.intothemythica.com), which is perfect.

NOW. How to have a perfect copy of the sub-site mythica.intothemythica.com overwrite the current site intothemythica.com without damaging the network tables or other things?

to be clear - i've got lots of sites in the multisite. I want to make sure they aren't affected by the transition and the safest way to do that.

    Hello Griffin!

Thank you for this additional information.

I think there might be a better way to achieve what you need. There's a way to just "switch" the main site of a multisite with some settings and update of URLs in DB. Take a look at this guide please:

    https://halfelf.org/2014/switching-main-blog-multisite/

The article is from 2014 so the screenshots show a slightly different interface than current one but the principle would be the same, so I believe you should be able to follow it. I think that should help to solve that.

    Best regards,
    Adam
