We had a theme update through the WPMU dashboard today

Hello hello,

An hour ago we had an update via the WPMU dashboard, 22 themes to update:

This update culminated in the deleting of our complete themes folder with all themes.

We are backing up now.

Can you guys take a look to see what happened to avoid this happening to others please?

Thanks

JT

    Hi @aeyrand,

I'm not sure how this is possible. The WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin can not delete themes or the themes folder. It uses the built in WordPress update functions and extends them to access our catalog of products.

During the update, did you get any error messages? Is there any other info you have regarding this? Were there any other plugins or themes that needed updates as well?

    Best regards,

  • John Taylor

Hello Alexander, will ook at logs in a bit, my server man is looking into it.

just to this in the dash immediately after the update

ERROR: The theme directory "gallery" does not exist.

Then Skype message from a users tat they could not login, will get our site back up and then tie a look.

Thanks for responding, we had a guy on FTP in the files just as that update occurred I have just been informed, could be something to do with it, will grab log and send.

    Hi @aeyrand,

Thanks for the update here. It's possible that someone using FTP was using up resources which were then unavailable to WordPress during the automatic updates.

ERROR: The theme directory "gallery" does not exist.

This would suggest that the theme may have somehow been deleted prior to, or during the update process.

I'm really not sure what would cause this. We handles thousands of these updates a day, and I've never seen this kind of issue before.
Is everything working at this point, or are there still open issues that need repairing?

    Hi Alexander,

    Hows it going?

We have our own servers & back up every hour, no worries, only our new members were a bit shocked for a bit.

We are still in Beta but are live so its better this kind of thing is discovered now.

However, we are running our concept to lists now so we can do without this kind of error.

The FTP question: We have no idea, we were logged in but not in those files and were not deleting at that time.

Well, if the log does not tell you anything, never mind, we need to move forwards.

    Its fine now.

    Thanks

    JT
