Website meta description does not display correctly

Hi,

For some reason the meta description of my site does not display correctly. The site is http://www.qtree.com. Here is a screenshot of the description that is displayed in the Google SERPs. (http://screencast.com/t/57tALrvE)

I can't seem to figure out where the video initializing code is or why it is being displayed.

I am using the Divi theme which should control the SEO title and description. The Title seems to display correctly, but the description does not (http://screencast.com/t/M04xeKOiu)

Please let me know if I can provide more information. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Dave

    Hey there, Dave!

Yep, that's definitely not right. It looks like this is an autoplay video, is it a background, or maybe in a slider? If it's in a slider, you may just have inserted the slider code that goes in the page template in the wrong spot.

I think if we can track down where this video is being added to your site, we'll be able to find a way to make it work here. Was it in a Divi setting? If you remove this video, temporarily, is the site meta read properly?

Thanks for any extra info here!

    Hi Michelle,

Thanks for the help. I have been banging my head against every wall for a while now.

I am using Divi theme page builder for the homepage. The video seems to be embeded in the top divider. (http://screencast.com/t/Z6dODJHz) The video is in the "section module settings". (http://screencast.com/t/Blz9Kcci) I will try turning it off and see what happens.

Do you know of a way to get google to re-crawl the page that's faster than just waiting 24-48 hours?

    Regards,

    Dave

    Hi Michelle,

I disabled the videos and now the meta description now displays correctly. Thanks.

I would like to use the videos on my homepage. I am guessing the issue is in the Divi theme but I have no idea where to look. Do you have any ideas where the issue is or how I can fix it?

    Regards,

    Dave

    Hi there, David!

I bet you're right, Divi may have wrapped the vids in an unexpected div.

To track it down, I'd do the following:
    1. With the videos active on the front page, right click near (but not on) the video and choose "Inspect Element." A developer console will appear in a panel in your browser. From here, you should be able to find the name of the div holding the video. This may offer a clue as to what's happening on the Divi end, and would give you an exact issue to take to the Divi theme support squad.
    2. With the dev panel still open, hit the tab that says "console." If you have any script errors on your site, they should all be listed here. You may find a clue about a script that's failing to load, or causing an issue.

If you take this information to the Divi team, they should be able to give you a quick hotfix to allow you to display videos and not muck up your SEO. If I were on the Divi team, I know I'd want to be aware of anything that could cause an issue on client sites.

    Thanks, Dave!
